Thread: 460 Ford Engine Set Up

    Need some help recently bought a CV 23 with the intent of a complete rebuild, Engine,Pump, Gelcoat , Interior. Does anybody got some setup ideas for this motor, Cam, Valves and so on. I believe motor is pretty much stock. Holley 750 Carb and MSD Ignition, Edelbrock Manifold. Any ideas would be great.

    What are you looking to do with this rebuild? Mild? Wild?
    Can you give me some info on your heads and block?
    Look on your heads, above the exhaust ports. There will-be some letters cast in the head. Dove, D3, Dooe-r. On the block on the side will also be some castings. I like to see them also.
    Once we get that info we can go from there.

    The Block has a Marking of DIVE 6015 A2B
    And the Heads are D3VE-A2A
    I want a Engine that is reliable and strong with a little Thump

    The most common upgrade that we do to the 460 marine engines is to swap out the D3VE heads and replace them with ported D0VE heads along with a roller rocker upgrade. This usually increases power by about 80-90 hp, and also provides the potential for a LOT more power down the road. If you must run pump gas, then it is imperative that you/we know which pistons are in the engine so that a "pump gas friendly compression ratio" is not exceeded. (If your engine is not rebuilt and not a King Cobra 460, then you are probably okay...but nothing can be assumed after all these years.)
    There are other areas that provide room to grow too, such as induction and exhaust changes, etc.

    It is probably a berkley pack a jet deal. You should talk to Jack at MPD about your pump, he made a world of difference with mine. I have a cv19 with an "E" pump.
