I have a 1991 chevy 1500, short bed, single cab, 305ci, 700r4 trans. I was wondering if any one knew what rear end they put in these. I think its a ten bo;t but I'm not sure. And what possible gear ratios are in it?

    if its a 2wd it should be a 8.5 10 bolt with a 3.42
can you still read the build codes in the glove box?
post all the ones that start with a G and I can cross them
to see what it was built with.
if not you will have to pull the cover and count teeth

yep or its a 2.73 , they put them in some of those trucks for better mileage, usually packaged the 2.73 with the 305. only way to really tell is the rpo codes in your glove box. get them and post em up, then we can nail it down.

most of the time those things are left off the 1st diff service, maintenance/lube techs tend to be lazy the rpo tag that's in all gm trucks glovebox tells everything you could wanna know about the truck. while i'm at work on the gm server, i can look up history or options on any gm car or truck.

My RPO codes in the glove box are worn out, I can't read any of them. If I give you the vin, you can look up the RPO codes at dealerworld right?

Is a '91 too old to VIS the VIN? I was thinking maybe a 3.55, but then again '91 was before my time when I got into the biz....I was still in high school

Post up the VIN or PM it, a few of us have access to dealerworld, I can check if you reply back within the next hour or two.
