    going to start working on my boat what grit sandpaper do i start with

    It depends upon what your end goal is. If you are going to remove oxidation prior to buffing, usually start with about 1200 grit or finer(higher #). Partially fill a bucket with warm water and a short squirt of dishwashing liquid, (to reduce friction and keep the gel coat particles in suspension). Use a foam sanding pad and circular motions. If you are prepping for paint, you would use about 220 or 280 grit (no water) on a random orbital sander,(DA). TIMINATOR
