I;m thinking of swapping my 454 for my 604 merlin motor. When it was in my offshore boat I had to have the risers extended so as not to suck water back through the exhaust. Would a set of wet bassett headers work with my merlin motor or do I have to run a dry header?

It would work fine if you have open engine compartment.

Make sure you replace the spring and ball in the Bassett "T", also check and see what amount of air pressure opens it. Should be about 12 lbs. We have seen several new springs that opened at 1 or 2 lbs. and that allows water in the port at idle. With the # of new springs we have seen wrong this year, I believe that someone is selling knock-offs. TIMINATOR

Sterling If this is what you decide , dry headers IMO are definatley out due both extreme heat and to potential fire hazard possibilities, Water injected such as Bassett or Rewarder would be an option , but require more work to plumb and keep operating properly . Personally I would opt for water jacketed thru hulls (tube within tube),safer and covered engine "friendly" . Personally I opted for the later center rizer types with custom tail pipes, like you described , simpler ,cooler and will support significant HP Tom

I had EMI's in my other boat, just afraid of the aluminum manifolds in case of water loss. Like to try stainless, can't afford to ruin my big motor. It's built to put a blower on, but I want to dial the boat in a little more power at a time.
