Ok guys, just bought my first boat. It's a 1978 Bahner 19 footer. It has a 454 and berkeley pump with a new place diverter. I was wanting to know how to identify which pump it actually has Jc,Jg etc. Any help would be appreciated.By the way i have learned alot from the forums as I have been reading for about 2 months now.TANK.

    Tank,
I know that on my pump there is a plate with a serial number and the model stamped into it (jc). It is located just in front of the hand hole right behind the grease fitting. You may want to look there.

Oh by the way I gave you five stars. Anyone who is willing to ask questions and learn here is a 5 star member in my book.

Miller is correct. The plate in front of the hand hole cover will tell you what pump you have and what impeller it came with. Most are A impellers.
mine reads 12JG-A which is a JG pump with A-impeller.

Can anyone give me the cliff notes version or point me in the direction of some good information on the advantages and disadvantages of the different models?

miller19 is right about the "A" stamp, however,
if the pump has been rebuilt, it could be different.

The JC Berkeley has an intake that goes through the bottom of the boat and the throat of it is all metal. The pump then bolts down to the intake with 10 5/16 bolts. The hand hole cover is usually inside the boat, unless it is a set back installation.
