well wouldnt you know it. the steering cable finally took a crap. getting hard to turn the wheel. i took the cable off and found you cannot try and clean em out. bummer. looks like im gunna have to buy a new one. but were to go? who carries these cables? im in north county san diego, but travel north to orange county quite a bit. any suggestions folks? and does anyone know if there is a maintanance on these cables besides greasing the one end? sure hope i can find one before the weekend. i hate to miss out on another river trip.

damn. just called harmin marine and they may have the cable. $200.... i guess boat really does stand for (B)reak(O)ut(A)nother(T)housand.
sure wish it was a boaf (B)reak(O)ut(A)nother(F)ifty...
the cable had a pretty good "S" bend to it. rand down the side and went all the way to the transom, then came back toward the bow, then back out the transom. i may want to get a shorter one and even if i have to expose it a bit more, atleast it will have a straighter shot. seems that bend would trap moisture in it after a long time. could this be why it went bad in the first place? or does the grease just get so gummed up inside it just stops working smoothly?

Call Rex Marine in La Verne, for less than 200 you should be able to buy a whole new steering system (cable and helm) I would think you could get a cable for about 100. Good luck

Both West Marine and BoatUS carry a huge selection of steering cables. Both are in Point Loma
