Did you make them bigger so that the ring is set inside the hole ? with a router?
    looks great
Essex- The mb's come with a ring to hold out the grill. That way it would fit in a 6.5 hole. The spacer ring is about a .25 inch thick. If you do not use it the grill will be flush. A cleaner look IMO. The holes then needed to be (I think) to 7". This same thing needed to be with the tweeter. I just don't like speakers that stick out. It was easy cutting the holes in the fiberglass. The vinyl was a lot more work.

Yep, have a 3year old and 4 month. Would try to do as much during the day while I had them on my shifts off. When mom got off work I would work way into the A.M. Think it took me 3 weeks total of here and their.

    Nice work! looks very nice.
Regarding the popping noise, if the head unit shares it's power supply (particularly the ground) with the common harness this could be the source of the noise. I would recommend drawing the head unit power from an isolated source and see if that helps.

Thanks, yours looks even better. Nice, totally custom and very clean.
My headunit is powered by the factory wiring. Clarion xmd3. It had a factory Clarion 480w amp that was mounted near the helm. Never had the poping. Last fall added the Infinity tower speakers. Placed the amp right next to the Clarion. Used the factory RCA through the Infinity amp to the clarion. Picked up the pop in the tower speakers. Now with the new amps it is even louder. I thought it picked it up from the mic wire for the tower speakers. Moved it out about 4' away from any wires and it still did it. Very frustrating.
    Keep the ideas coming.
Matt- I had to use the clips. When the hole was made bigger to be flush, the screws do not have anything to hold. They would be inside the hole. Do not know how to not use them. If you use the spacer ring then they go into the fiberglass.

I also had a thump similar to what your describing when first wiring up my 3 amp stereo.
I wired by headunit directly to the perko switch and the problem went away

Unplug the RCAs and tell me if it goes away.
I had that... I went to Al and Eds in Ontario... Will and dallas laughed... They sold me two "PAC'S" for ground loop iso. Put them in AT THE RADIO RCA connections, grounded the shield to the case of the radio... ALL NOISES GONE!
    Good luck!

I meant don't use the trim tabs and your popping noise will go away. :rollside:

I noticed that most head units in boats run off the same ten pin harness that every thing in your helm runs off of. That means your ignition, all your lights, motors (trim, tabs, and actuators), bigle pumps, blowers etc. are using the same ground. I've found that if you run seperate pos and neg from the battery or perko switch you can usually all but eliminate all the motor noise. Just my experience though, not saying some of the other guys ideas will or wont work. You can run a temp wire across your interior directly to your head unit to try it. If it doesn't work than try some other suggestions.
