SO, would a 2000 454 MAG have the roller cam?...
I tried searching the mercruiser website but its late and i couldnt find any specs on the older engines(just the current bigblocks)..
I really want to try synthetics in my 454 MAG but that last post about roller cam problems scares me(well,if i had to replace it i want a 500EFI in there) :-)
however i would just as soon not touch it at all except for routine maintenance.........
thanks(its just above 10 degrees here right now,can ya tell im jonesin for the river!!!!!)

If it is a Gen VI (with aluminum timing cover) it should be a roller. That roller is not going to have any affect from synthetic oil, from what I read it is the high lift cams that tend to have the slip problems & that cam you have if stock is not high lift. If you want to try it I would & not worry about it.
