Thread: Drilling Holes in the prop

    What does this do?.. I have a 28 that I got with the boat.. it has holes in it.. when I added the blower.. I changed my gears and went with a 30.. its new.. has no holes?.. what is the purpose of the holes?

    Three or so holes in the hub behind the blade?
    If so, it is for ventilation to allow slippage (& increase engine
    RPM) for a quicker hole shot, but allows you to retain the
    prop's max pitch for top-end and cruising.
    Some merc props come with various size bushings to allow
    custom tayloring of the slippage. You can also epoxy fill them
    to reduce slippage.
