Yep, You can belt drive the pump, just make sure its a Gilmer belt to avoid slippage. You will also need a couple of extra bungs in your fuel tank for the returns and make sure your fuel lines are big enough to handle the volume needed. Oh...don't forget a fuel shut off. As for the iron heads...what kind? wedge or Hemi? Compresson ratio should be kept in the 7 to 1 area for nitro, maybe lower, I'm guessing here as I've never fooled with a nitro engine.
