It was great. If you like family runabouts, wakeboard boats fishing boats, or big sloppy cruisers. Once again, zero performance craft.
Formula was there with 4 boats, smallest was a 26. Crownline, Maxum, Ebbtide, Glastron, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner and the usual suspects rounded out the family section.
Lots of wakeboard boats. It was a veritable forest of giant wakeboard towers.
I did buy two pairs of Blueblockers for $20.00 though.
    So let's see....
    Parking....................................$ 8.00
    Admission for four....................$26.00
    3 hotdogs, 1 Fries, 2 beers......$27.50
    4 Mrs Fields cookies.................$ 8.00
    Coming home without a boat........Priceless!
Oh well. Here's a couple of pics...
The Big X star, pontoonish V hull dealio starting at $88,000.

Kind of a cool interior layout......sunpad in the middle instead of aft.

I went to the 2000 SD boat show, and it was a little different, but not a lot. Dick Simon had some formulas, fountains and bajas, and Ultra was there. That was about it for "custom" or "performance' boats.
    See you in LA.

I honestly think I would've gone to the show today in San Diego. But after reading this. NOT! Thanks Mandelon for saving me some time and a few bucks. See ya in LA!

I'm on my way down w/in the next hour. Generally a pretty bad show compared to LA, but then again, I can have a beer and sit in a bunch of boats that I'm not gonna buy and besides, I need new wakeboard bindings so it's off we go....

Lame show - nobody missed a thing Not a single custome to be seen, although there is a new 28' Nautique that was pretty cool....with stick on graphics for over $70K!
You were smart to have saved your $$$$ for LA....

I was there on Friday, my buddy builds towers and tubular aluminum swimsteps and had a booth there. That X-80 was $88,000 with a $10,000 discount and weighing in at 5400lbs. I was talking with one of the sales guys at Joe's Crab Shack after the show and saud that most of them will go out the door well over the century mark. I told him I thought it was ridicolous. He didn't like that much.

    Mandolon,
Your wife has "that look"...........like don't even think about it. LOL
    .
So you mean to say John aka Ultra was not even at this show?? I though he might be the lone custom builder there. Wait til LA show.

That big ol X star is like 28 feet long....
I get that "look" a lot. I don't even think about it a lot.
I asked John West and he said the San Diego shows just aren't worth it. I know the LA one is pretty expensive for them.
I wish there'd be more customs, but with the LA show so close, they must figure..."why bother"??
