Hey fellow speed freaks. I own an 96 20ft outlaw. Stock 5.7 mercruiser 2 barrel alpha drive. Surprisingly 58 mph is a common number turned on local lake. Looking to add some speed. Will a 4 barrel help or hurt with the stock motor or should i start fresh with Big block .

I would not put a lot of money in your motor. You should have got a 350mag 300hp. Because it would have a steel crank and forged pistions. You are better off enjoying your baja the way it is and later selling it and buying one with a big block. Good Luck!

Iboatfast, are you sure the 350 mag has a steel crank and forged pistons? I know the 454 mag does, but I have not been able to verify this on the 350 mag. I am planning on putting a procharger on mine.

Carreraeagle, Mercruiser magnum motors should have forged steel crankshaft, connecting rods and forged aluminum alloy pistons. Call your mercruiser authorized service.

I would not sock to much power to that Alpha drive. You'll break it for sure.
