1:26 Max!
I am now ready to rebuild my drive and have to order upper and lower gears. I have an Imco SC drive with the 2" polished shorty lower.
my options are
1=order mercury XR gears for a 1:26 ratio
2=order imco replacement parts 1:25 ratio
3=order Max Machine Worx gears 1:24 or 1:26 (forgot)
Who knows what gears are the strongest???
I know that all upper gears are the same so is it beneficial to order the after market gears.
my cost is approx 500-600 bucks more for the after market vs mercury.
26 cat=500ci quad rotor efi
any ideas???????????
Thanks in advance

I thought you already had your drive done. I would think you would need 1:24-1:26 ratio for the speeds you're looking at. Also, more selection and easier to find 30p props for decent price.
Max machine has my drive, will be giving them the go ahead soon. 7k for drive using my upper housing, and about 2k more for 1" shorter sportmaster with low water pickup. Is probably overkill for my application. Only downside I can think of is finding anyone within 500 miles of here to work on it .
order the merc gears . they all use the merc gearsets. 1:24 ratio

Chadzilla4ever,
Are you the same Chad that has worked on Dougs drive on his Schiada? Riverside area?
thats what I ended up doing.
merc gears saved me 800 bucks. Damn aftermarket pirates
jrocket, yes I am that same chad. I have been building drives for about ten years now.I work on just about everything,(omc's volvos etc), and also do my own upgrades. If you need some help e-mail me at chadzilla4ever@msn.com.
chadzilla4ever.....
you will owe me for this....
chad did my b1 drive upgrade two years ago...upgraded b1 to xr gears, steel tower, etc..
behind my whippled 540 and 25 daytona i put over 60 hours of on it and no drama...looked at it over the winter...no issues...
we will see how it does behind the quad rotor this year....

Ok, here's my dumb question of the night....
What exactly does Merc' manufacture themselves, or am I just a grump after paying $80.00 per valve for stock stainless replacements on my Gen V 502- thank goodness it was only a few that bent. Guy at my marina is a Merc' certified tech and he is good except for insisting on merc parts..
