I need to know if there is any preference between these two heads other than brand recognition. They are going on BBC 454 bored .030. The topline have a 320cc intake the dart has a 308cc other than that the specs are pretty much the same. They are both cast iron heads.

The pro topline's have been getting a lot of good print, now let's see what someone who actually knows what they're talking about says

I just bought a pair of toplines and my head guy said they flow alot better then the merlins or the darts. The exhaust is raised and the valves are moved more than the others.Hope to have some #'s soon from the dyno

They are both nice pieces. I think you will be very happy with the toplines. I have a customer who runs the same heads you mentioned. he runs a 496 w/ 11.6:1, big solid roller, not sure about the cam #'s, 1050 Dom, Long story short...696 hp@6700.
I didn't build the motor but he said he picked up 1/2 second E.T. With just a head swap from 990's. Just .02 but you should be pleased. You bought good shit.

I think I am going to try the toplines. I haen't heard anything really negative about them yet. they can't be any worse then my cracked 990's.

Yup 696 plus 150 on the plate, another 200 through the nozzles. He claims the motor has been together 7 years. Again, I didn't build it, nor have I seen the dyno sheets. Nevertheless he is happy with the heads. I will try some soon personally, and post the #'s.
