Great boat ! Here is a review on the boat. I have the orange one like the article.

A side note to this is that my other friend has '97 23'Scarab SCS like in the movie Faceoff. This boat is the real deal. I dont know what it is layed up with, but it is light yet strong. Have not GPSed Havasu yet but a safe guess is 75-76mph with a stock 502mpi. Will run 69mph GPS on Powell.
If you see a SCS for sale buy it.

I have a 97 w/ 502 I have the stock 25p Mirage on it and 76 is about it. I was thinking about the 27p or 29p. What do you think.
i have a 1998 22 scarab 7.4 carb 27p mirage with the stock rev limiter. the boat runs on GPS 79.8 mph at only 5025 rpms. if anyone can help me disable or change the rev limiter to a higher rpm, i would like to see waht the boat can pull up to 5500 rpms.
the rev limiter is killing me top end speed. i also use a 26p 4 blade that pushes the boat at 72.2 mph hitting the rev limiter.
any help on the rev limiter would be great.

I have a 96 22 Scarab. It originally come with a 7.4LX MPI which is a fuel injected 330hp engine. Merc. only made this engine a couple of years. Its a great engine. The boat ran 66-69gps with 2 people and gear etc. 70.5 gps running light. Installed a 99 502MPI last year, now run 73-74 GPS with full fuel, coolers, and 2 guys. Have yet to run it light with good water. Should hit 75-76. For you guys having chine walking problems, I would change props. I've tried lots. The 25 p Mirage Plus labbed seems to work best on my boat. You don't want a stern lifting prop. Those will get you squirly. MrScarabRacer.... You are cookin! Do you know if your X dimention might be raised a little? That's fast for a 22! Supersoaker466, I have the dual Drew Marine " Sidewinders" on mine and she runs straight. Also retorque the nuts on the u-bolt that tightens the steering swivel shaft. It's located on the Gimbal housing above the drive. And yes, buy that Scarab, these are a blast to drive!

this is the deal, I have owned my 1995 22 scarab for about 7 years it had a 454 bravo 1, I have a GPS speedo in the boat. with the stock motor & a slightly tweaked mirage 23 the best I saw was 66 mph & a consistant 63-65. with 600 hp the boat ran 79 mph @ 5900. with a mirage 3 blade prop It is not loose at all, It also handled good with a hydromotive 4 blade just not as fast. I do not like the performance with a bravo 4 blade. they are very good handling boats overall. If you want a little more performance install a thunderbolt 4 ingnition this eliminates the rev limiter so you can run it to any rpm you desire. Im still waiting to see how it runs with the newly installed 720 HP motor.

The 22 will and can run 70. I had a 19 ft...the little sister to the 22' and I ran 55 consistantly with a 4.3L Vortec V6. I had 2 friends with the 22's and they both ran 69 to 72 MPH consistantly. Scarab really had a great hull for both boats. My little 19 ft took 2-3 foot chop like nothing...............................If you dont believ it, ask another Scarab owner. Wellcraft hit a homerun with those hulls in 96 thru 98.

install a merc thunderbolt IV ignition box this will eliminate the rev limiter all together.
