I started to help my friend build his 454 today and as we were wiping down the crank I noticed small little cracks in the #3 and 4 rod journal.They are very small cracks. That doesnt look good to me. I am thinking a new crank. The crank was just turned and we are going to take it back tomorrow. I think it f****d, what do you guys think? Any cracks to me means trouble so I stopped what I was doing.

You might be seeing heat cracks..usually across the face of the journal. Means it got hot on that journal..and left over marks after turning. Usually visible under wet mag. Fact that you can see them with naked eye bugs me. And any crack whatsoever in the radius area...crank is history.

I dunno I don't think I'd run a crank with visible cracks, heat or otherwise.

Good quality chevy cranks can be had very reasonable, the short of it, cracks= bad. Junk it, by a new eagle or somethin.
