Iw it a Mercruiser drive? If so it is an Alpha and may last long enough to get the boat on plane before breaking the driveshaft or gears with the torque of a 502.
FYI, it will bolt up to the transom plate with the Merc. bellhousing.
I want to put a 502 into my 26' 1979 sleekcraft. It currently has a 350 in it. Does anyone know if this motor bolts up to the stock out drive and do I need to do anything to the stock outdrive? Also is there a book out there that can help me do this?
Thanks

I believe it is an Alpha. How can I tell?
Thanks,
Your boat most likely has an alpha 260 drive on it. I definetely would not recomend bolting in a 502 in front of an alpha. If you are definetely going to put the 502 in, save yourself, family and friends alot of expensive repair bills and the hassle of getting towed in and put a bravo drive on the boat.
Thanks, I am going with the Bravo. I am going with about 600 to 650 HP 502. Two questions, Is there a specific Bravo I need to keep my eyes open for? Also, I will be selling my faily new 350 merc and alpha 260 outdrive, do you know about what it may be worth to someone?
Thanks for your help.
With that kind of power, you should get an xr drive. Otherwise you will probably have drive issues with that power/weight combo. You should be able to get $1500 for the drive and about $1000 for the transom assembly.
