Thread: Is this the thrust bearing going out?

I have a 97 Commander with a Dominator jet and im pretty inexperienced when it comes to jets. Im starting to hear a sort of whine comming from the pump area that gets louder with increased RPMs. I was wondering if there is a sure fire way of knowing that it is the thrust bearing before i go tearing the motor out. Also, what would have caused this to happen? the boat only has 150 hours on it and i do run the bilge but im not sure if i run it enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, probably the bearing. It probably got water in it and damaged the bearing.
You mentioned having to tear the motor out, you should not have to have to pull the motor if you only want to service the jet.Unless its an E pump
I would look into that bearing situation, you dont want a bearing failure, thats when things start getting expensive.

Get it checked out now, the longer you wait, the more it will cost you!!!!!

    Have you greased the bearing?

the bearing is fully greased and it always has been, so im still not quite sure what caused this.
