Thread: Giant RV S**KS

I was backing our motorhome into the backyard after the NASCAR race in April. I did not like the angle of my approach and tried to adjust it. In doing so I ripped the last four feet off the back of the coach. I was so pissed at myself I could not believe it.
After cleaning the coach out we took it over to Giant RV in Montclair for an estimate. I told Mario (service guy) this was coming out of my pocket not an insurance company's. Three days later I get a fax telling me they wanted $17,368.24 for the repairs. I almost lost my lunch. It took me two hours to get calm enough to call this POS. When I told him I was picking the coach up, he sounded confussed and did not want to leave the keys with the sales manager for a "late" pickup (6 PM).
I contacted a company called The Paint Department in Chino for an estimate. They do NICE work! I arrived after they closed and the owner, Dave, came out walked around the coach and said "hmmm, you sure do good work, hahahahah". I have a pretty good sense of humor and took this in stride. After the $17,368.24 quote I received from Giant RV, I was thinking $10,000.00. He himmed and huad for a minute (every second took an hour off my life) look at me and said..... It won't be more than $1,700.00. I about shat myself! These guys are some of the best in the business. The Paint Department (http://www.thepaintdepartment.com/)
Giant RV had five older (60 to75) people in getting work done there yesterday. I hope they were not being screwed as hard as Giant tried screw me.
    Stay away from these guys!

I did two days of research before choosing this company. I called all of my contacts in the bus business before contacting The Paint Department. They came highly recommended.
I never spend money without checking every angle. $1700 is still a lot of dough!

I heard some stories about repairs on the "SKIN" of an RV being real expensive. They try to insist you need to do the whole side of the coach. The problem on some of them, the skin is one piece. I have seen a few repairs that have come out fine from just fixing what is damaged.

I have to take my new RV down to get looked at. The side is de-laminating. I don't know if it is fixable or they replace the whole side.

I called Monaco Customer Service in Oregon. They were pi**ed! The head body & paint guy at the factory told me Giant is a continual pain in the A** to them. They always quote no less than 300% over the national average for service. This came from the factory. The P&B guy at the factory tried to suggest a shop. I interrupted him, told him where I took it and he laughed. I thought WTF? Then he tells me that is where he going to suggest. That made me feel a lot better.
