Thread: BBC Alternator mounts

I'm swapping the Olds for a BB Chevy in my 75 Hallet cruiser and the Chevy came w/o an alternator or brackets. Now that I have the alternator, I'm faced with the choices of long or short water pump styles and as I'm running the water pump off the cam with the aluminum cover, what's the cleanest way to mount the alternator and where'd you get yours?
    Thanks in advance.

I like the direct drive one from Rex if you can make it fit in your boat. I even ran one on my Vega to eliminate belts and slow the alternator down. http://rexmar.com/page305.html
They also have a low mount type that is pretty nice if the direct drive from the balancer won't work for you: http://rexmar.com/page304.html

This is a simple one on this 396 V-drive setup

I had a setup on my Spectra V-drive similar to Rex's . That's the best

I agree, that's as simple as it needs to be. Is that a GM style and if so, from what years or vehicles.
The low mount set up from Rex looks good as well and for $90= it better be... I don't think mounting the alternator to the crank is feasible as it will probably hit the brackets for the steering.
That's an interseting routing for the cooling lines. I take it that it's a reverse route? As I'm going to run a thermostat on this new motor, I'm going to need some guidance on the new runs...

If you look closely, you can see the alternator mounts on the engine plate, then has the adjusting bracket up top, fairly typical if you can get it to line up correctly.
I can't say for sure, but looks like he plumbed from the pump to the top of the exhaust manifold, out the bottom of the exhaust back to the T inlet.

This is a Rex mount, I had to trim the motor plate a little to make it work, this is a very solid mount no movment or vibration.
