What type of exhaust are you running? How is it setup?

are just a couple. The biggest difference in those as opposed to the ones I made is the center is blocked off. I left mine open so as there was less restriction in the flow.

Need some help my father inlaws boat is too loud? 21 ft eliminator 454 bbc w/ regular hardin marin exhaust logs, he just put new exhaust tips on last summer and tack welded in the metal flappers with rubber tips. He replace the tips because the new motor was blowing out the full rubber flaps every time he ran the boat. What can we do to quit this boat down? It is loud enough you don't want to ride in it hardly. It quiets down one you are on a plane and running hard but from a stop ouch.. Any ideas? I measured from the flappers and there's only like 4" to the back of the tip. Is there something out there we can fit into the tip and quiet it down? Any and all suggestions would be great!:idea:I had the same problem with my sleekcraft with indmar logs last summer. You have to take care of the kids ears! My motor is an 11 to 1, 454 and was pretty loud even through the logs with snails and like yourself I couldn't keep the rubber flappers in. If you have the room in the exhaust hose inside the transom,REX marine has inline silencers and silencer tips.

I run through the transome, but above the water line. My pipes are dry to the tips. so it can be loud with out the mufflers.
My bullets mufflers are from gibson, they are not cheap. But check the classified on offshore only, lots of deals .

My pop ran a set of super traps on his through the transom setup. Was nice and quiet. I run a set of inserts on my boat, but I have OT headers. When I have children they will probably wear ear plugs.

These tips (my boat) can take a small silencer similar to what Steve showed you call if I can help you Tom

don't know what exactly you have or size but I would imagine they are either 3 1/2" or 4". There are several things you can use. I have had 3 1/2" turnouts on my T bucket but know have 4". Go to
    http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1736...l?itemNo=auger
and look at their AUGER turnout mufflers. Also Shoenfeld headers makes insert mufflers (similar to the ones pictured in CAS message) as well has short mufflers you could clamp on.
    http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/mufflers.htm
the problem with the augers or insert mufflers is you will need to come up with some way to keep them inside the header and not blow out. My T bucket has turnouts that keep them in.
Since Speedway doe not make the Augers for 4" pipe I had some little adapters lasercut to fit the 3 1/2" augers into 4" pipe. You could drill and insert a small bolt and nut to stop the insert from blowing out.
