    First generation K.Cobras were V-8 outboard gearcase lowers. Clutch-dog. Stout enough to handle 460 fords.Though they did have a run of burning up rubber prop hubs! Too much exhust on 'em!! OMSick had too many problems trying to get techs to fix these units (Cobras) the correct way instead of their own way. Too bad as a little info can make these units very reliable.
    The joint venture between OMC and Volvo (Volvo bought into the Lexington manufacturing plant) gave OMC some needed cash but they gave up control to Volvo. This was after OMC came up with their own cone-clutch unit. Then Volvo decided to use their own upper with OMC's lower (later King Cobra). By then OMC was just along for the ride "till they went Ti*s-up!!

Yes, but they did call the upper ranges (350 HO and 460 Ford) with the Dog Clutch system King Cobra and then the OMC designed cone clutch units became King Cobras. It is too bad they are gone, they had good products, but they were poorly managed and imploded under their own weight.
