I apologize in advance for the boating related post.
If you have a rub rail that has a joint, is it butt jointed or lap jointed? or other?
All the rub rails I've seen have been butt jointed but I'm about to install one and it will be in three pieces so I'd like to know the best way.
Thanks. :)

I prefer my wifes butt rub my rail. However, the joint next to her lap is the best.

Butt Joint!
When I installed the rubrail on my boat, I put the pieces on in the following order:
1. Transom piece first. Dead center.
2. Bow Piece. Dead Center
3. Sides Pieces. Butt them up to the transom or bow pieces and try and lose the joints on the sides of the boat rather than the transom.
Granted You see the full piece on the transom of my boat. And there is around 70 feet of rubrail on the thing too, so it is hard to see the seems.
Are you doing the Stainless rubrail? If so, there are tricks to using it!!

Thanks for the replies.
The main body of the rail will be plastic but it has a domed stainless insert and is a little tough to make it go around corners. Any pointers?

Tom...to install that particular type of rail it will need to be a temperature of at least 100 degrees Farenheight...wonder if I spelled that right? :D

Jeez, what a coincidence. Today I was looking at the bench racer's forum thinking "What a bunch of developmentally challenged phucktards" and now Tom wants to splash some of that mud on me.
Uh, I guess since it's only until midnight I can live with the honor. :D :D
