What? How many inches are in 5 inches? Or do you want to know how to figure out the diameter of a hole?

Like our exhast pipes on our boat are 5inches in diameter. But I was gonna make something.... and I need to know with the ruler I have...how many inches long to make it

You guys are confusing me..... :hammerhea
I need to make this thing fit as perfectly as possible. And the boat is 4 hours away from us...problem  .... I would like to make it before we go back out. :)

i think ur looking for circumference....which is c=2*3.1415*radius
so c=2*3.1415*2.5 in this situation
c=15.7075...just for future reference

If you're looking for the circumference, it is pi * diameter.
circumference = 3.14159 * 5 = 15.708"

So I would need something that is 15.8 inches long roughly :) Thank you!!

Math Geeks never ciese<sp> to amaze me. I'd have just drawn a 5" circle and measured the radius and called it good.

I agree. That would be my way.

Tom Brown and I have this math thing down! Yes roughly 15.8 inches...but remember to compensate for the overlap your going to need to join the two sides together...

Are you asking about Pie? I'd like a piece! With ice cream!
Seriously-
Pi is used to do all kinds of measurement tricks with a circle. Are you asking how many square inches inside a 5" circle? It would be 5 divided by 2= (radius) 2 1/2 inches..... square it (2.5x 2.5)= 6.25 x 3.1416 (pi)= 19.635 sqare inches in a 5 inch circle. Wanna know the circumference? It's 5x3.1416 (pi)= 15.708 inches around the circle. This isn't advanced math! I thought everybody that went to high school knew this stuff(?)!

You could go to Home depot and buy a piece of 5" pvc and that would give you something to work with instead of guessing on the measurements. Thats what I would do.

Never mind the math. They got it.
Are you making pasties for your tail pipes??

You never know!! Check these robobabe hooters out on the back of my boat....They are definite candidates for pasties!!

I slept through math. Not to mention I havent used any of that junk since high school so I have forgotten how to do it all. Isn't what calculators are for?

I would never do that. Plus Andy would kill me.
I'm gonna make some vinel covers for our pipes so when we are parked water will not get into them.

Is water in your tail pipes a problem? Do you not have internal flappers to reduce that? Not being critical, but trying to understand since most boats don't need covers. They do make external flappers as well. Both the internal and external flappers don't stop water from getting it, they just stop the major rush of water that is usually greatest just coming off of plane.
I ain't gonna fall for no banana in the tail pipe!!

I am making them..so that when we are parked at Moabi or Topock and a lot of boats go by...the water splashes up pretty good..... so instead of putting towels in them and around them... I will just slip this on.
It is to my understanding.... which I am quite stupid..so who knows... but I don't think that it is a very good thing if a bunch of water get's in your pipes.

just remember to remove them before you fire it off :D
Of course :D

Water in your tail pipes is not a bad thing, unless the water gets all the way back to the motor. You pipes actually have water injected into them, but only when the motor is running so the exhaust blows it out. The water acts as a muffler.
Looking at your pipes I could see that it might be a problem since they are up high and probably don't go up much higher and then down. So that definitely could be a problem. You should hook up some kind of teather to your new covers just in case you forget to pull them off and they will still be "hanging" around.

They are pretty straight for a while... than they go down. Remember I am bored at home..so it is just something to help time go by faster. We don't ness. need it.... but why not. Just to be sure we don't ever get too much water where it doesn't belong. I don't think we will very forget to take them of...well at least myself... I always double check everything before we take off. Maybe I will just make something like that in case Andy is ever by himself
:p  I was thinking about making them with a zipper... but velcro might work better.

I'm sure the water would blow them off...unless it was a really tight fit

I was thinking to teather them to the grab handles. They would blow off instantly at start up.
Perhaps she could incorporate some Teflon and phenolic into the vinyl for heat resistance? :clover:

That makes sense to put covers on if you have water splashing that high. External Flappers would work, but don't look that nice.

I have over a month before we go out again  :D So I have time to mess around with diff. stuff.
This winter I am re-do some of the interior. I don't like the yellow and blue stripes. So I am gonna make it all white.

We don't always have water splashing that high ...depends on where we go on the lake and water conditions.... how many big boats ect are around. We don't like the flapper look so much. We like this look much better.

Velcro is works well. Bassett sells a similar cover for their headers and they use velcro in a slit (kind of like a slit skirt). This also gives you more room for error since you can tighten or loosen as needed.
What is up with the smileys....I click on one and a different one pops up!

I don't know if they make them in 5".
they come in anycolor you want, as long as you want black. :)

It is gonna be cheaper for me to just make them I think. I am gonna make them white. It needs to match
Ok back to the kids.. Andy needs a break now :)
Thanks once again everyone.

I gotta admit - when I read Bre's post about something 5" in diameter - the pipes on their boat wasn't the first thing that came to mind
Hey Bre, maybe you could design and sew up a couple of vinyl fists and stick them in the pipes :2purples: :jawdrop:
