Got a free boat that is actually in pretty good shape except for the gelcoat on the top. Its been sitting out in the sun and is faded pretty good. Is there a way to get the color back. Color sanding, buffing etc etc.

Ya take the boat out on a 114 degree Havasu day and fly a naked blow-up chick over it all day while you're suckin up Margs. Ask Mandelone, he cleans his boat that way :rollside:

Does the gel have metal flake in it or solid colors?
Usually if there is some clear left on the gel you can color sand and then buff with 3M rubbing compound with pretty good results. A picture would really help as the smut filter @ Edwards won't allow me to get to Barney's site.

They are solid colors and there are no cracks that I can see. Its a 19' with a 230hp outboard. it is a 1983 campbell. Ive never heard of it before but hell it floats :D

You may have to wet sand it, but good pictures would help :D

Do a good colorsand and buff and see how it turns out. Clearing it would make the color pop, too.

It's an easy fix. Just drop it off with Billy B or ToddnJuzz.

Speaknig from experience, you might just want to go ahead and wet sand the boat and then apply a new coat of Clear. The buff job will get you a polished looking finish but it is going to oxidize over again in no time. So if you choose the buff route you will keep doing this until you start burning through what is left of the clear gel coat, (In time). Then you will eventually have to paint the entire boat. So spend time now and do the wet sanding and get the new clear and save time in the long run.
