I have an 03 21'aftershock toronado not sure on the weight (around 3000) i believe question is do you think a 1988 toyota 4x4 V6 will pull it alright just local trips that is.

I would say yes if its flat no hills. I bet your boat weighs more. My 19' flat weighs 3450 full of fuel (14 gallons). Don't lug it either in OD.

It certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but as K-flat said, if it's flat and not far it shouldn't be a problem. I'd spend a little time in a secluded area to get used to how the truck reacts with that weight on. I'm also thinking more than 3000 lbs with a 21' boat and all the goodies.

I would think you might have more of a problem stopping it than pulling it.

I would be more concerned about your brakes and ability to stop than hills and such.

Actually the toyota brakes are pretty good. Weight of the vehicle vs weight of the boat is more relevant. It will get pushed around.

You need to buy a real truck
that boat will fuel, tailer and all the goodies is over 5 thousand pounds.
I used to have a 1998 4runner with the 3.4 V6 and it could barely tow my 18' stingray which total weight was around 3K......
Try getting off a semi flat ramp covered in moss.......

You could always just fire up the boat and use it to help push. I've seen it done...

I had a 94 same motor i use to tow my dads 20ft open bow family boat.mainly only a few miles to dana point harbor or to long beach to my house about 35 miles.I think you are ok for flat ground and close trips any more you will need a bigger truck.I did ok towing my 19ft jet boat but them trucks dont last if you tow alot.

Its so rare that I just sent Harold an email asking him about it. I have never seen one his boats with anything other than a v-drive in it.

cool iv'e been wandering i love it though i did have one guy, the first time i took it out to havasu before it was even in the water, this guy started talking to me and asking about it and, asked if i was intrested in selling it he would give me 6,000 cash that day for it i just thought he was nuts. but i would never sell it i have to much sweat in it. plus it was a project that made my dad and i closer

If you go the back way off Clinton Kieth you should be fine, no real hills just a few "elevation changes". :) :) :)

localy and not over 45mph you'll be OK. Just leave your self stopping room. Any where ells get yourself something heavyer to tow with.
Just my 2 bits worth

Doesn't the trailer have brakes? That should help you out too.
I used to tow with my 85 Toyota extra cab P/Up 5 sp, towed from Burbank to Castaic and Pyramid and BV no problem, but the ramp at Piru darn near fried the cluthch on it, that thing was steep as hell, 18' Sidewinder by Tahiti w Olds 455, was my buddies boat(still is) and felt heavy towing but i had no problems, just took my time going up and over the Grapevine and left alot of room in front of me just in case.... Good luck and have fun Mike VG

I used to have that same truck but with an auto. My mom drives it now. Still in the family. The only thing I have towed behind it with no problem was a pair of skis. I would not go much heavier.

probably weighs closer to 5000 pounds than 4000. watch your rpms and you'll be alright. how local are you talking? used to have a v6. after a couple havasu trips it was time to get a v8- or else! very simalar boat to yours. :D
