What do you have and what do you prefer...Roz, Riverbound and others have been of great help...But I am still deciding on which way to go? Let me know what ur systems consist of and what u like.

6x9 equal more volume, 6 1/2 equal better quality sometimes...if I had the space and could do external xovers I would do 6x9's...Volume tends to be more important in the boats if quality is good (not great)..Another option to look at is the 7" coax's by Pierced (contact Transonic in Montclair)...these sound great and give you more cone for volume...Some manufactures are starting to use these...I have 8 of these and they sound great....I wish MB Quart still manufactured their 8" coax's...those are the $hit in a marine setup...

That would be nice...but I am on a budget...and I can get a decent break on Kicker...I was looking at there 6x9 and 6.5.

I would listen to both; hopefully in a boat and then make your decision...

Don't you know that Boat means toliet in Spanish like throw money down it.
I think Kicker 6x9's would help with your sound system and would increase the volume. Space is always the issue. But don't install and change your mind because once you go 6x9 they are there for life....

I'm pretty sure Rocky did the entire install himself. Very clean install, and the system sounds awesome. Very nice!!

Personally I prefer the 6 x 9s but the guy that installed the stereo in my boat put in 6-1/2s and 5-1/4s in places where it will be very tough to put 6 x 9s in.

Thanks for the props Rick. I did do the install myself and most of my stereo equipment was bought at 10% over cost. I would say your looking at about at least $6K with install labor.

I have 8 cerwin vega IT 6x9's in my boat running off a fosgate 4 channel 800watt amp and 2 vega IT 15 subs running off another of the same amp, and it all sounds awesome, very clean.

I used the MB Quart NKD 116 in my boat (6.5) and I really love how clear they are. I have 12 (6 pairs) installed in the cockpit. I have heard some good 6x9's as well. Either way, if you put a lot of either one in, it'll be loud. Also, don't lack power. Make sure you put enough power to them. I'm running 2200 watts to my highs.

6x9 are great for volume....

I didn't read the whole thread, but it seems that 6x9's = louder (most of the time) AND 6.5's = better sound..
On my seat bases (back seat and under the front seats in the open bow) I run all 6 x 9's as they help with the "filler" sound. I run 6.5's up in the higher parts of the boat (gunnels) to help with sound quality.. that and the directional tweeters help with to make it louder outside the boat as well.
I have 6 - 6x9's and 2 6.5's / 2 12's solobarics. Seems to be loud enough.. ;) I've never had any complaints.

I have 6-6.5's and 2-12's in my boat. I'm very happy with clarity of the 6.5's. I'll be adding one more set of 6.5's and probably one more amp soon.

I have some of each. 2 pairs of 6x9's down low. 1 pair of 6.5's up high and 1 pair of 6.5's in the midcabin (up high in there). JL Audio amps and 1 10" JL sub round it out.
It's a low budget system, but with all the help I get and the beer I'm going to have to shell out, it just went to midlevel budgetary level. :rollside:
