Has anyone else heard that there is a problem fitting on some of the newer engines? I believe that the hearders are ment to fit early 496 and the newer enginines have issues with brackets fitting back after the install of the CMI headers.

i just got mine done on both motors...close to $10,000 including install! i ordered them through cmi direct. have realistically seen about 3-4mph increase over previous...while i expected about 5-7 pmh more, base on their review of 3.1 mph gain in SPEED BOAT MAG!!! (for a single motor that is) however the mid range cruising speed to nailing the throttle is noticabley much more responsive, and torque filled!! mine also ran a little more $$ as i had to have custom 'S' exit pipes made to go under the transom as the original straight pipes would hit and were not low enough!!! good luck.

10 grand for 3-4 mph? Wow.... How about a labbed prop, dont put so much fuel in the boat. Wax the hell out of the boat?

Anything's gotta be an improvement over these P.O.S's. Any comments on the torque getting outta of the hole/ on plane? I've had issue's last season w/ a full boat load.

You don't like your Lightnings? I would kill for 8.1L pair.

The CMI's are a pain in the waazoo to install. They were designed for early model 496's and do not fit 2003 or newer 496's. Other than that, I have been installing Lightnings for 11 years and have never had a problem with them.

Thats doesn't look like the 496 that everyone else is talking about. That looks like a normal older chevy motor.

hard to tell your drive and no way to tell your set up. but i seriously doubt those headers are the cause of your problem.

so you're saying the less than expected top end is due to the weight ratio of two engines to the added horsepower bein a lower number, but the torque is there? sad but logical. Ya think my single would see that 5-7MPH?

That's alot to ask with no other mods.
I have always cut the gains that are advertised - in half. If K&N says you will see 10 HP in any given application, I feel lucky to see 5.
If MSD says 10 HP, for a box and ignition, I feel lucky to see 5.
So on and so forth. If you expect to see half, you don't set yourself up for a fall.
