with a truck and trailer in California. It used to be 65' but is that still the case? I have a 34' motorhome and a 35' boat will put me way over but when we go to Glamis some of those rigs look way long.

In California 65 feet max if registered as a motorhome, but on any highway that uses federal funds there is no OVERALL not trailer length limit for trucks which are most highways in the state 5 - 99 etc, also motorsports vehicles can exceed the 65 foot limit no motor sports vehicle can be denied acces to venue regardless of length there are some king pin to center of rear axel stipulations . Anything registerd as a motorhome will not classify as a motorsports hauler . My rig is over 80 feet and I bought it new 2 years ago and have had no problems in any state so far . One thing I have noticed near Glamis is rigs being measured . I have talked to several CHP and they all say the same thing drive 55 stay in the slow lane and we wont bother you . When we are in the rest areas CHP come up and talk to us about our rig all the time usually wanting to no what we haul and who cleans it never once have they questoned the size .To find this stuff look up federal or STAA regs they overide the state on federal funded highways just my 0.2

I have always been told 65' on a registered motorhome also. Never saw it in the vehicle code though. I looked the code up on the internet and that thing is like reading anything a lawyer put together :D There becomes alot of cases of axle placement and hitch locations that change your max length. My M/H is 33' bumper to bumper. That means the enclosed trailer I want can only be a 28' when I really want a 30' or 32'. Does anyone know were it calls out reg m/H of only 65'? This is a good topic that more than a few of us can benefit from. Let's have some more info. Cale

LUVNLIFE go to calgovt.com or go to yahoo and type max length for motor home in ca . 65 feet is the max on motor homes regardless of axle placement but I wouldnt hesitate to go to a 30 foot trailer you would only be 3foot over with a 5 foot tounge

You can be longer than 65 feet but will have to have a CDL and do the scales with log book etc. But with motorhome and trailer they will not mess with you very much. But if you are leaving or going to a race track like Pomona for the Winternationals or World finals the CHP have been know to give us some problems. Even with a F-350 and trailer that is over 65 feet total they have been know to make a few people park them. Cliff Bigman was on his way to Firebird many years ago with his drag boat being towed by a F550 and had to park it at the boarder scales and have someone with a CDL come from Firebird and get it to drive the rest of the way. My friend works at the CHP station in Blyth and says just be cool and they usually don't mess with you.

that is a sweet hauler/trailer combo.............. Given the opportunity to
buy a bus or a toter, I'd buy a toter hands down...............
--Sherpa\
maybe a 28' 3-pop out coach with overhead bunk on a tandem KW with a
500hp cat............... yummi.

Haulina29 I have a FL70 with a 16' conversion toter. I have never been pulled over and think I could push the extra footage. What length is your coach and trailer seperate. I figure with 32' trailer I would be almost 70'. Trying to decide if I should just go gooseneck. I have to store the trailer anyway but it would make it easy to have a tag because I can go get the trailer with the wife's truck to bring home.

Sweet setup haulina. So it wouldn't matter even if I had my class 1, I would still be held to 65' because I'm registered motorhome? Think I might just gamble and go with a 30' or 32' trailer. But I have seen 28' stackers and that only puts me 1' over  :D

Yes over 65 ft and registered as a Motorhome you would be illegal regardles of a CDL . I wouldnt even worry about a foot or two . You are right about the tag I have a 550 Ford that I use to move it around or bring it home etc ,
