Am I the only one who thinks Tim McGraws new songs lyrics are a bit odd for him?
Don't you remember
The fizz in a pepper
Peanuts in a bottle
At ten, two and four
A fried bologna sandwich
With mayo and tomato
Sittin' round the table
Don't happen much anymore
We got too complicated
It's all way over-rated
I like the old and out-dated
Way of life
""""Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew """"""""
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
I love my records
Black, shiny vinyl
Clicks and pops
And white noise
Man they sounded fine
I had my favorite stations
The ones that played them all
Country, soul and rock-and-roll
What happened to those times?
I'm readin' Street Slang For Dummies
Cause they put pop in my country
I want more for my money
The way it was back then
Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
Give me a flat top for strumming
I want the whole world to be humming
Just keep it coming
The way it was back then
Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when

I really like that song. Makes you yearn for an easier way of life. Now, I don't know what 10, 2 and 4 is, but the rest of the song talks to me.

not sure what brought the changes in his songs lately, but im finding myself actually listening to them now. before it seemed he just told stories and never really "sang" the songs. atleast he is now showing some range in his voice. Faith, are you giving him voice lessons? :p

damn, that goes on in here too? it amazes me of the generic minds some people have. comparing apples to oranges. geeze people, does it allways have to be your way or no way? if you dont like country music, fine. go down the tuner and find whats left of the good ole rock n roll stations.

Most people dont know what happend there. He was not changing. It was a whole deal. There were plans for a movie. They tried somthin new, instead of releasing the movie and then the soundtrack, they released the sound track first. Then the movie got canned. He was not trying to change.

But also did you know... That Garth ALWAYS wanted to be a Rock star. That is where his heart was and he was sidelined to Country. He loved Country and at the time when he felt like he had done it all, he wanted to try the Gaines thing... Easy out with the whole movie thing.

I suppose then you wouldn't like my new Merle Haggards 40 greatest hits CD...
Country music is the best, you can understand the words, SING along, and it actually has melody. There is always a story in the song, and it makes you think, unless that troubles you....

thank you. It really is, and I listen to lots of different stuff too, but a lot of the lyrics they are spilling out are about nothing but hater stuff! a lot of people say country music is depressing, that is only true if you take it that way. I love it all, happy and sad, cause its life!

I was watching VH1 last night, and they were playing "The 50 Most Awesomley Bad Songs... Ever," and Toby Keith's Courtesy Of the Rad White and Blue was #20. I got a little pissed. Now I listen to a lot of different music, but I do listen to a lot of country, and that just pissed me off. Thank you for letting me know 10,2,and 4, I really was curious...

I used to really like Tim, until he and his wife (and that Shania chick) put "pop in my country!"
He obviously didn't write the song, and honestly, I think it is poorly written. It's basically a newer version of "Okie from Muskogee" but with weaker lines. It could have been done a lot better, 'cause the melody ain't half bad, but those lyrics! :220v:

I can't agree more with you about the "pop in country" - this has really taken the good ol country out of Country! There are still some good ones coming out, but most of it is just POP! You gotta go to Texas to hear the real country!

I haven't heard Tim's song yet but the lyrics niggled at me like they were familiar ... I finally figured out it's cuz they remind me a little of John Cougar Mellencamp's Cherry Bomb chorus ..
Chorus:
That's when sport was a sport
And groovin´ was groovin´
and dancin´ meant everything
We were young and we were improvin´
laughin´ laughin´ with our friends
Holding hands meant somethin´ baby
Outside the club cherry bomb
Where our hearts were really thumpin´
say yeah yeah yeah
Say yeah yeah yeah
