WTF ARE REP POINTS............
IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OFF A POST, THERE IS LIKE A SCALE BETWEEN THE LIGHT AND THE CAUTION TRIANGLE.
CLICK IT AND YOU CAN GIVE THE POSTER A POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE REP POINT. THE AMOUNT DEPENDS ON HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN POSTING AND HOW MANY POSTS YOU HAVE. YOU CAN ALSO LEAVE LITTLE NOTES AND YOUR NAME OR TOM BROWNS NAME.

I think one of two scenarios should occur..
1.. Keep the points and install a mandatory signature system..
2.. Get rid of them..
I am kind of leaning towords "get rid of them".. They aren't being used for their intended purpose. IMO

I'm screaming along at + - 250 chicklet gimmes.... Whatever you guys think. I have always said what I wanted to say on HB, never considered my "rep" important...

why the yelling girl,,we hear ya. :D but I didn't get that, can you repeat that please,,,just one more time huh huh please :D :D :D :D
I don't care if they get rid of them or not, and it will not stop the negitive reps. I have had several that are not signed, that I dont get, it you have an opinion and it's strong enough to state, then stand behind it..I always have, I sign my pos and my neg (very very few neg)

The rep points are designed to show who has experience and knows what they are talking about right? Go in the tech forums and poke around. The guys with the knowledge that have been here forever have almost no rep and some don't even know about the system. Most don't even care actually. This isn't to say that those with high rep don't know what they are talking about. It is to say that many with little rep aren't getting the recognition they deserve. In other words the system is useless except for decorating your name for Christmas

I couldn't care less either way. No vote from me.
On a side note, I had to show Jeff yesterday how to find his love/hate notes. Then he had to go back to those threads to remember what he even said.

That is true. I guess I've been lucky and haven't gotten any negatives. If I had, I may be upset too and want them gone. I'm sure my day will come. I'm always saying things that get my husband in trouble. :D
But you shouldn't be able to get away without signing them, or signing someone elses name. It should just automatically say who they came from. Then we wouldn't have anonymous scaredy cat men who hide behind the anonymity. Reminds me of the KKK. They spew all of this hate and filth and then hide behind a sheet so no one can see who they are, or the Islamic Fundamentalists that I see in the newpaper with their faces covered up. Same thing.

You've been a member for almost a year, rep points have only been around for a couple of months. You have posted a total of 4 times. I think there's some other reason you don't participate. :D
If you just want to lurk, that's fine, but don't blame it on the rep point system.

Don't know what it is all about???? How to check them? What happens is you get bad ones and how do you know if someone gives you a good rep point? Do people leave comments as to why they left you bad ones or good ones? Sooooo many questions???????? To answer the question. I don't think it is all that important, I just have a good time visiting with everybody.

Well I don't think they add anything to the board, but there are also worthless people that don't add a thing to society except a tax expense for their welfare check and we can't seem to get rid of them. So I guess we can survive with them. I don't understand why if someone doesn't like what someone posts in a certain thread, they don't just type a response in the same thread with their opinions. No need to do it behind closed doors. This seems to be what most of you are complaining about anyway (they give red chicks with a nasty comment about a post and don't sign it). Do away with the rep points and let someone post their opinion for all to see. That will seperate the men from the boys (and the women from the girls) and see how many harsh comments will be posted then. Very simple. Either grow thick skin and don't even comment on the red chicklets you recieve (which is what these secret posters want anyway) or do away with them all together.

I do not think rep points should be anonymous.
I support the right to free speech and expression.. I also think that you need to stand up for what you believe and sign your name to your views.

I think too many people don't understand what a reputation is.
The best evidence of reputation is a man's whole life. --Ames.
This whole deal about rep points being signed or not signed is not the point of a reputation. The law of big numbers will tell the tail of who you are in the long run. Even if they are signed only the person getting them knows who signed them, and it doesn't matter. Same with the comments, they are for the person getting the feedback only. All the public sees is the final tally, and it's not even clear to see or understand. Reputation is the bigger picture of ones life, or (in this case) the way one posts. It shouldn't be taken on a case by case basis.
I understand people are abusing the system and using it bash others for personal reasons, but even that will be balanced out in the long run if it's an anomaly. If several people are doing that to someone, you are left no choice but to wonder about their reputation, and ultimately their character. Isn't that the point of the system?
I have red dots, just like most of us do, but I also know I have character flaws show up in my posts from time to time. ;)
