Imagine being on the receiving end of that :2purples: Add one (1) part depleated uranium and one (1) part A-10 Warthog and you get a dead tank :hammer2: :hammer2: :)

Nothing spells out fun like swift and unyielding violence.

I worked for two years building the A-10...at Fairchild Repiblic co. In Farmingdale NY ....Funny ...at the time....late 70's The Govt was doing everything in their power to get out of the contract,...They hated the plane...In fact the A10 has the distinction of being the first and only...at the time Plane that the Govt. sent to Air National Guard units and Air Force reserve units brand new out of the box....The pilots said the low top speed made survivability ...near zero....It wasnt until years later in the gulf war that everyone raved about its Tank busting ability and survivability....The Govt didnt have much to say then....But Jbb knows the truth...lol
I wish I could show you the awesome Video they showed us of what that plane could do to a tank....Devastating....

JBB, is that 30mm gun in the video like the one used on the A-10?

The gun in the A-10s nose is A Westinghouse Gu8A 30 MM Gatling gun...Depleted uranium rounds....Hi/ Lo selector for 2100/4200 rounds per minute....The loading cylinder for ammo in the plane looked like a giant stainless garbage can....Major Bang! :hammer2:
In testing the gas from the spent shells would stall the turbine engines..The fix was,if you see a picture...... a small diffuser plate under the barrel moved the gas away from the eng inlets...

That would be the GAU-8/A Avenger 30 mm cannon, complete with 1350 rounds of ammo.
Note in the picture below that the nose landing gear is offset to the starboard to make room for the gun...

I worked with a guy that was in Kuwait after liberation and he took a trip to the "highway of death". He said the holes from that gun looked like the concrete had been cored, not chipped, broken or cracked... just like a core drill had been used.... f'in amazing! :mix:

Ive heard of one story where it was missing an engine, half of the tail section and part of a wing and it flew home.

Also the reason the engines are set out on pods away from the body of the plane.

That is a great picture, i've always loved the A-10.
I saw a demo at an airshow at Belle Chasse Navel Air Station near New Orleans. The A-10 came low and fired for about 3 or 4 seconds at a tank....the tank exploded into about 1000 pieces...totally destroyed it in seconds.
I love that plane!!!

The father of the A-10 was facinating dude named Pierre Sprey (http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/main/baltosun.html) he is now now runs a famous blues recording studio. He was one of John Boyds "fighter mafia". They fought the Generals and Bureaucracy of the Pentagon to design planes they believed in when nobody else did. (Boyd was the father of the F-15 & F-16) Sprey knew the way to fight a war in Europe was to provide NATO with a true close air-support plane. He had to fight the Air Force to create the A-10 and eventually got his way. The Air Force planes of the 60's were costly show pieces, not performers, and these guys changed all that.
