I wish you guys were closer to us. We could be at the snowline in about 15 minutes. And in North Shore (Tahoe) about 50 minutes after that....

Hey V, to get the kids cold and messy, go to your local mountains, or head to Wrightwood or Big Bear for the day. For real snow, get the condo in Mamoth like Deb said. We've been going there for years with friends and family and have never had a bad time. We've got friends that have skied most of the world (as a life's quest I guess) and honestly think that there is no better place to ski in the world than Mamoth Mountain.
Have fun

If you really want some spectacular snow, you gotta come see us in the big sky country. Glacier National Park can't get better than that.

It kind of depends on what your purpose is. If you want to go for the day and play in the snow, I would recommend Wrightwood. It is the closest of the local mountains. They usually have OK snow for sledding and a snow ball fight, but that is about it. If you want something that is more relaxing, I would go to Big Bear. They have good snow, decent shopping, and good restaurants. It is about an hour farther than Wrightwood. If you want good skiing, I would go to June Mountain. Personally, I don't like Mammoth as much as June. Same high quality of snow, but it is a lot less crowded. They have great little cabins that you can rent and is a fun town to relax in. It is about the same distance so if you are going to go, I would recommend at minimum of a weekend trip. Not worth the drive for anything less. 8hrs if I recall properly. Been a while since I have been up there. For any real high quality skiing or snow, you have to go out of the state. No comparison!

DENVER!!! Vail, Aspen, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge, Winter Park, etc. They also have really cool mountains just for inner tubbing with the kids. Lots of hot chocolate and fireplaces too!!! :D

Vail and Aspen are my choice, but there are a few good local choices that have been mentioned. ;)
