View Full Version : Battery Installation for Stereo - Hardware

My boat is in the shop today for stereo and I'm having two 6v batteries added solely for the stereo. They want to put them in this black box in the engine compartment. We called a couple of places but the Interstate batteries are taller and wider than the average battery and no one has the hardware to install them. Seems the black box is all that is left.
Any suggestions? Anyone know of any billet, or otherwise, hardware that will clean up my engine compartment some?

I know a guy ;) that can custom make a couple battery boxes for you.. but as with anything in life, if it's "custom" it ain't gonna be cheap.
If your interested PM me.

Check with Froggystyle. He had some custom billet boxes made up that house two 6V Trojan batteries in one unit. They were very trick, and I believe he is selling them.

I'm sure they would whip up something if you asked. At least that was the impression I got when I bought some trinkets there. Don't wanna cock block a sell for ya though RD. ;)

Here's a pic of the one's RiverDave is making. This one is for the Optima batteries. But I'm sure he could whip up something for a 6 volt that would be equally bitchen.

No but he could have Dana powder coat his batteries and then fasten them to his bilge with some two faced tape.

I went in the archives, and found the Froggystyle boxes. Here they are for the dual 6V batteries.....

Theese were prototypes prior to polishing, but he said they could either be polished or powdercoated. Pretty trick!!!

Those are the batteries I'm getting. That is a nice set up. Now, if I could get two of those that hold a set of batteries each sitting next to each other rather than the long way.
Dave?

I make alot of stuff for Schiada. Most of the stuff is a labor of love for them. All but the pockets for the batteries and the pattern were done with a router, templates, band saw and a drill press.

If anyone's running Odessey bats in sand cars or whatever we have these now (http://shopping.rexmar.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=batboxbilods) as well as RD's optima and other boxes. Nothing for those 6V though.

I'm not sure, I need to do some research on it I guess.

Seems everyone needs a strong power setup for a good stereo. Even with my simple system in my Commander, I was worried that I was killing the batteries after 5 minutes. Maybe I was a bit paranoid.
I'm getting two of the 6v batteries in the Trident pic. Is that a suggested setup? Seems to me Wes knows his stuff. If he's doing it, might just work.

Wes and others here have way more expertise in the stereo area than myself as far as what's best. I'm old school. Never have owned a boat with a stereo yet. Every boat I've ever had has been too loud to hear one anyway lol.
I'll obviously be looking at the battery box market more closely coming up. Times are changin. Regardless of what's in or not in my boat.

You should see the big black plastic box they want to put in my beautiful engine compartment. Won't match my Merc Racing motor or the fine rigging of Eliminator at all.
Not to put down the installers. Hell, only RD has really come up with a solution so far, well and Wes. Where's Wes when you need him?

My friend Wayne is running two of those in his Schiada. Cool setup up very small and light.
