for those of you who do not know. I have been gone from the boards do to my son being ill. I thought he had the flu on jan. 5th. I went to temecula for my brothers first born. My son stayed home with dad and was sick throwing up and all that .. I came home thursday night. he is still throwing up , diareah so I figured the flu is bad this year. I will take him to the dr. in the morning. we get up friday morning get the daughter ready for school. My son started screaming in the bedroom . I go running in to his room and he is holding his right side and can not walk. so I rush him to emergency. we get seen right away and the dr. doesn't know exactly what is wrong so he calls in another dr. we waited in the examining room for 6 hrs. finally a sergeon comes in and says it is his appendix. he has to wait another 2 hrs . I say wtf.. well I guess we have no choice. we get a room he goes in to sergury suppose to take 30 mins. he is in for over an hour.
his appendix rupchored poison is everywhere. he makes it out fine. we were in the hospital for 8 days. he is throwing up can not hold down much food. still so know we are waiting for a specialist to see if something else is wrong.
he still gets severe stomach cramping, diareah, and really bad acid reflux. but he has no fever.
they have givin him an e-ray where he has to drink some white shit and then they watch it go through his intestines and stomach and all that. everything semms to be working fine. just a little slow.
so we are waiting and praying for this to finally come to an end so he can go outside and have fun like a little boy should,. please keep him in your thoughts. :shift:

Mrs.FV I am so sorry to hear about your son. It is a tougher surgery once the appendix does rupture. I hope nothing else is wrong with him. The hubby went thru that a few years back and it was a very scary thing. He will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Hopefully they will find the problem real soon!

We'll keep you and the little one in our thoughts and prayers. A ruptured appendix can be very serious and thank God you took him straight to the emergency room like you did.
His little body needs to work through the toxins now, but he'll be fine, 'cause he's got a great mom looking after him.

we have Kaiser. :hammerhea
the dr. on duty wasn't sure what was wrong so he wanted to wait for a sergeon. well he was in surgery with another appendix and we had to wait. I guess they didn't want to spend the extra money to call in another dr. :burningm:

M uncle went through this a few years ago. They didn't get all of the bacteria out before they closed him up. It's difficult to do, I'm sure. He ended up with other problems related to the lack of proper clean up. I don't remember exactly what. Just keep on top of his symptoms, and make note of each time you call the doctors and their responses. Do they say this continued vomiting and diahrrea are normal?

they did not say it was normal but they did not say it was abnormal. he has not got sick today but they did say to give it a few days at home and if it continues to bring him back in. so we are watching him closely. he hadn't eaten for almost 10 days so it may be his system from lack of eating then all of a sudden eating again.
I was thinking it may be the antibiotics they were giving him because I told them when they gave him one of the antibiotics he would get sick about 2 hrs later. but they didn't seem to think that was it.

WOW Mrs. V. Sorry to hear the news. It sounds as though your situation is as good as it can be right now. I'm sure your boy isn't out of the woods yet. But it sounds like the worst part is over. This stuff can be scary. We're actually going through something similar right now with our youngest boy. So believe me, we can relate. At first we were thinking it may be appendicitis, turned out to be something else. Nonetheless, surgery is inevitable for him. Nothing too major. It's still tough as a parent to have to see them go through it, while you feel helpless at times cause you can't make the pain go away. Stay positive, these are tough little boogers we got. Kids tend to bounce back and recoop well. Best of luck to you guys. We hope the best for you. ;)

Similar to like Advil, these antibiotics typically have to be taken with some food in your stomach. They are tough on your digestion track. I'm no doctor or anything though. :D

OMG Char!!....Your family is in our thoughts..he'll recover just fine but it wears on the nerves of all around him.
This exact thing just happened to Janets sister in Alaska a few weeks ago. They had to fly her by Helicopter from Anchorage to Seattle to perform the surgery--in her case it was bad enough to have to remove some intestines too. She too thought she was battling a flu, for a good 4 weeks :220v: .

She's now recovering and doing great.......and so will your son, hang in there dear.

That happened to my son. It took the SOB's three days to figure it out. I was ready to kill someone. The did an ultrasound and said it was a bruised kidney. I thought, great they are going to think I abuse my son. We think he hit it on the boat while jumping off since we had just finished a week at Shasta. Anyway it ruptured and I kept telling them they needed to look at the appendix. ba$tards. It was killing me to see him in such agony.
Glad to hear he is ok and on his way to getting better.

I went through a similar situation about 6 years ago. I had a bad offroading accident and burst my gaul bladder among other internal injuries. After my surgery it took about a month before I could eat regularly. The acid from the gaul bladder had spread throughout my body causing similar symptoms that your son is having. Still to this day I have to take acid reducing medicine daily to prevent heart burn. Hopefully with some time this stuff will clear out of him and he will be back up and going again. Hope ever things turns out ok.

Sorry to hear of your son's illness Mrs V, I too have been helpless with a sick child and it just tears you up inside :frown: . Hope your son is doing better. As someone said when your appendix ruptures a great deal of toxins get released into your body. The effects of which can linger for a good length of time. One of the best things you can do to help the body rid itself of the toxins is drink a lot of fluids. Nothing with a lot of sugar or dyes. Water is preferable, but most kids would rather have some sort of juice. You can dillute a good cleansing juice like Cranberry with water and make him popsicles or even shaved ice. Good luck :clover:

I hope your son is feeling good soon and back outside playing. It's hard knowing whats wrong. Our boy has had a bad cold for the last week. We're taking him in today to his doctor for his cold and his 2 year check up. Everytime he's had a bad cold or fever that won't break, we've taken him in. We don't know, this is our first child and he can't tell us how he's feeling or what might be wrong. The doctors just smile, say he's fine and give it some time.
Last spring we all flew down to visit my folks in Gilbert AZ. Ethan (our son) had a temp of 104 on the second day we were there. Took him to a clinic because we thought it was pretty serious. The doctor told us to triple his dose to Infant Tylenol. I thought you've got to be kidding me. In 24 hours his temp was normal. My wife & I have had more sleepless nights wondering if he's OK. It's so hard to dignose the symptoms.
God bless, take care and have a speedy recovery.

Mrs. Vee,
You and yours are in our prayers...
FYI, I had a similiar situation in 94. Side, ache, etc. Thought it was a kidney stone so I just waited it out for two days.
Wound up at ER, and in Surgery about 5 hours later.
My Appendix burst in the surgeons' hands as he was lifting it out of me.
9 days in the hospital on mega-antibiotocs and I was back to ework in six weeks...You guys hang in there, he's gonna be fine..

Very sorry to hear the bad news...A few years ago my daughter was six. She started to have a very bad fever. We thought she just had the Flu. A couple days went by and in the middle of the night she woke up screaming. She was in terrible pain from her right side. We rushed her to the ER. In about three hours she was under the knife. They said a few more hours and it would have burst...
She has been fine ever since.
Mrs V you and your son are in our thoughts. ;)
