I have a 23', but have ridden in a few 27's, and they are all bitchen. Great write-ups and great handling boat and probably the best "value" in the market today or ever, not to mention the best looking I believe.
My personal experience with Tom the owner has been nothing short of great. You will be happy with that boat, I promise, that is till you get the itch to go bigger, and in that case, Tom has a 30' in the works !!!!!

OGShocker has one and he loves it, from what I've read. I had a chance to meet the owner of Dana, Tom, at a little get together in November at Havasu, real nice guy and seemed like a very upstanding individual. I also got see the 27 running along and it had a real nice set to it from my perspective along side in our boat.

Well I took delivery of my 27 just after the boat show and have had a great time with it. The ride is fantastic, really stable at the river and in the big blue. I like it because it rides like a hot rod and not a big sled like some of the other boats I've been in. Really a fun boat to drive.
Tom does put some high quality stuff in his boats and it really shows. I didn't have to upgrade anything except the engine and the drive.

I can not say anything about Dana boats because I have zero experience with them, but their 27 used to belong to Rayson Craft before someone got a pair of bracelets.
I have had two friends with the 27 and they both loved them. They handle the rough water extremely well and haul ass. Actually, if I was going to build a 27' V bottom, that would be the hull that I go with. With the steep V and how narrow the boat is, it allows it to haul ass and handle the rough water really well. 3' chop on Mojave @ 70mph. Just click the tabs down and wack the gas. Great riding boat and fun to drive. Can say without a doubt that the hull is great and I have heard good things about Dana.

is that the same 27 hull that the original DANA had before it went to rayson ?

I believe it is. I was told somewhere that someone other than Dana or Rayson Craft owns the mold and will loan it out to whoever pays royalties on it. I know that is how Rayson Craft got the mold. They paid royalties on every boat they did. That is why no creditors were able to touch the mold when Johnny went into the pokie. He did not own it. I have no idea if Dana owns the mold or not, but I am assuming that the molds are one and the same or a splash of each other.

Well, I had the 30' Eagle before and had to sell it because of being out of work for over a year, so I sold it and bought the Ultra... just cuz I couldn't live 2 miles from a lake and not have a boat.
But now things have turned and I want something bigger... just not a 30. I was actually thinking of a 26 Eagle, but I think Eliminator just wants too much $$$$$$ for them. I had heard good things about the Dana boats before and just thought I'd check with the tribe... :D

It will be the best money you ever spent, you will feel good about the purchase with no "buyers remorse", because you will have a kick-ass boat, that looks great and handles everything you can throw at it. NO better boat in the market at that size at that price with that performance, PERIOD !!
The owner of Dana (Tom) is almost finished with his own personal boat, a 27' of course, that is incredible and you can see it at the upcoming L.A. Show.

As most of you know we own a 27 Dana. I have driven most and climbed over all of the So Cal builders boats. The Mrs. and I looked for a boat for over eight years before choosing Dana. The combination of fit and finish and the opportunity of dealing with an builder like Tom made our choice an easy one.
Bobby aka Atmoickitn, rigged our boat and what a job he did! A GREAT JOB!

I spent some serious time out driving the 27 on Mojave and trust me on a big day you do need the tabs! Never got into anything that the boat couldn't handle, but without using the tabs and trying to run fast the boat would slam the nose down. Remember that Mojave gets rougher than any place I have ever been. Hell, it sinks houseboats. When it gets that rough, trust me, you DO want the tabs! Normal chop, no big deal.
Additionally, I never once said that Tom splashed the molds. Either Tom bought the company and the mold or someone somewhere splashed the boat and had a second set of molds. Rayson Craft built the exact same boat, granted the quality was crap, it came from either the same mold or a splash similar to it. Never accusing Tom of anything just stating the facts.

Well, Mojave is where I ran mine like that at the Almost Dam Run. Besides the big dogs like SYA and Bling Bling, not too many of us probably could hammer the throttle and not worry. The Dana did. Went to a place called the Pacific Ocean and found even rougher water. No problems here.

Well, after seeing the pictures of the Almost Dam Run, it was obvious that the water was not that rough. I we put over 140 hours on my buddy's boat in one season at Mojave. Try Big Basin on a 2 flag or a black ball day guaranteed that it will change your mind. SYA would have a problem I guarantee it. Guys with 36 Fountains have a problem sometimes. Not too bad if you click the tabs down 2 degrees and go for it. Kind of fun.
As for the Ocean, not hard. If you know how to drive in the ocean it is usually not that bad. Go up one side, down the other. I have been out a ton of times and as long as you know how to drive, you will be just fine. On a rough day at Mojave it is a lot different. waves are coming in so fast that if you make a mistake, you are done. Ever taken a wave over the bow of your 27? We did! Ripped the passenger seat right off the stand. Wave hit the passenger in the chest and blew the seat right off of the base. I guarantee that you would want the tabs in that situation. Either that, or you just don't know how to drive or are not really smart. Why beat yourself up if it can be avoided? 2 degrees down and go.

Not shopping, still deciding if I want to make that committment after losing about $55K in depreciation on my Eliminator a few years ago.
I like their boats, and everyone has positive things to say... lots of bang for the buck. But my Ultra is paid for... hard to think about taking out a loan or using home equity for a boat. I just have to get myself comfortable with the whole thing.

Yes, part of it is the beam, but its the degree of the hull that makes the difference.
It's the difference between a dive and a bellyflop, how much surface area hits at one time.

They actually just started building "in-house" boats, so fella's like you could buy one right away if need be. Granted, you have to take what is available, but I saw a very nice one that was just finished recently in the showroom that looked "sweet" if still available.

Normally, I would be 100% with you, but I would bet that I probably have more hours driving the same model of boat that you own. We put on over 450 hours on the two 27 Raysons in a period of years. When I calculated it out, I spent over 65 days each year during that 2 year period up at Lake Mojave. I know the boat, I re-rigged two of them. Don't think I need them from somebody who needs TABS to drive a boat.
Thats fine, don't use them. I will be sure to inform SeaTow that you are heading out and which direction you went.
All B.S. aside, when you get into BIG water, they are not always needed, but sure nice to smooth out the ride and keep the nose from slamming down. They are definitely worth the extra money to have them installed.

You want some driving lessons on how to operate YOUR boat?
Maybe you should open up a driving school. Cats and v-hull lessons no matter the make or model. Careful with the drives though, they tend to let go sometimes.

Yeah, funny thing that performance costs money. Step up and find out.

All good. Getting done and built up right now. Water pump impeller went bad. Very rare on Banshees. Getting it back, keeping this one because will have a whole new top end and case, selling the others and getting a new YFZ 450

Make sure you get the 'hot start' relay next to the throttle. That is the only way to go.

Nice thing about the YFZ's is that they are electric start. The Honda 450's you have to kick and the hot start is the only way to go on those.
