I don't think you can go very wrong with any of the Sony stuff...
Try Best Buy and ask whatever questions you have.

Most digital cameras are AA, the key is to have a spare set of batteries in your camera bag, most important thing is to remember that the memory you get with a camera is very limited, buy an extra memory clip to assure you can take lots of pics. the one that came with our camera only alllowed us to take 10 pics at the lowest resolution. The memory disk we got allows us to take over 50 pics at high resolution.
We have the Sony Cyber-shot 3.2 mega pixels. this is our third digital camera and we find you have to be aware of your setting for low light areas or your pics will not come out.....
Hope that helped.

this is AA batts titties and beer i just bought one for the wife and its a kodak with 2 AA and a printer base that recharges the batteries..i think its a 5 pix. but it takes super pic's and if you spend the extra $$$ and get the printer with it you will be amazed at the quality pic's you can print at home.....

If you have $500 get the new Kodak DX7490. It has a nikon battery so you dont have to deal with AAs.

After going through 3-4 different digitals, I went back to FILM....!!!
Too much hassle with battery life, cables, picture "framing", etc.
Best one was the first, Sony digital that saved to FLOPPY. Batteries lasted forever.
With my Minolta SLR auto program, zoom lens, etc....what you see is what you get...When I process the film, I get a set of pix and they burn the jpg's onto my CD for a buck or two more.

does the base need to be hookedup to the puter??or doe it standalonestand alone! or hook it up you can print by just pluging your camera on top of the base and push the button,,its the easyest i have seen yet.

Give it a try. I liked the size and the "grip"...easy to shoot with one hand, in the boat, etc. I'd just keep shootin' onto floppies, then load 'em onto the laptop in the evening.

looks like the canon 300 has better video (30-60fps)than the kodak(13fps) but how much $$????

I was thinking bout goin w something AA powered.
I think that's a great choice, although it rules out anything ultra-compact.
I'm pretty sure Walmart has the Canon A75/80/85 (takes AA bats) at a shockingly cheap price and they're pretty tough to beat. There are a lot of great cameras out there these days, though.

I would go with Canon Digital Cameras. They have realy good optics and digital imaging.
If you are looking for a really good compact camera i would go with these.
Canon PowerShot S70 (7.0 mega pixels) and/or Canon PowerShot S60 (5.0 mega pixels).
You can buy higher capacity batteries for these. The stock one doesnt last that long if you are shooting 5 mega pixel shots. The lower the resolution or quality of the picturesyou shoot will determine the length of battery life.
Hope this helps.

I've found that the rechargable AA batteries seem to last longer than Duracells, Energizers and such. The salesman that sold me my Olympus Camera suggested the "Monster" brand rechargables and I am happy. I've taken over 150 photos without recharging and still have power left. Might not work as well in all cameras, but four batteries and the charger was about $20. Alot cheaper than buying new AA's all the time. I've charged mine close to 50 times probably and they still work like new.
