A chevy 383 is a 400 crank in a 350 block. The "383" label is usually reserved for the older style (non-LS) blocks.

hummm i beg to differ ....... bore is 4.000/ stroke is 3.75/ rod size is 5.7.
= (377 ci).... a 383 is + 0.030 larger on the bore size. thats what makes a 383 (377 ci = 6.2 liters)

I put a GMPP HT 383 in a Suburban it runs like a bigblock and you are carrying less weight.Contrary to some beliefs I feel this would make a great boat engine.Check out the specs http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfparts/images/parts/pdf/12497317.pdf
If I rember corectly the engine was around $4300. three years ago.
