I was just curious if anybody has a problem with their fuel gauges not giving you a correct reading?
Mine will read Full for a long time then all of a sudden it will show a half a tank.
Does anybody have the problem?

I don't think any of the float type gauge senders are very accurate. When mine reads empty it has about 10 gallons left. Better that it reads too low than too high.

If you dont use a float type sender, what else is there?

Thats all right. Have you done anything to resolve the problem or do you just go by the amount driving you do?

A couple of years ago mine was reading half a tank but I knew it was empty when I ran out of gas in the middle of lake Mohave at nightfall.
It was hours before we were able to flag someone down for a tow back to Katherines. Now I top it off everytime I put it in the water just to be sure. :D

It can happen easy if you don't pay attention and depend on the guage like you should be able to. It's not fun when it happens though. :D

You would think that some one can make a failry acurate gauge and sending unit.

Mine would show empty when there was about a half a tank... so I never trusted the guage. Almost got me stuck out on Tahoe... :hammerhea

Part of the problem is that many of the tanks are belly type tanks. Meaning that they are wide and not very deep, so a float gauge is not going to yield very accurate results.

Especially when it's stuck! :supp: :D

I have three tanks, three senders, and three gauges. All are at least *reasonably* accurate. One of the tanks is the original Temp tank Glastron put in the boat in 1977.

mine reads full for a long time then when it comes off full it fluctuates from
3/4 to empty. Seems worse in the ocean....

that's exactly what was going through my mind last time out in the "fog bowl"
showed 3/4 idling out of the harbor, went over the first swell and it showed EMPTY.....I was thinking....UH OH :(

when mine quits bouncing i know fuel must be low, i always flip from tank to tank to try and keep it level anyway

Mine are spot on all the time. Of course they are sight tubes going from the bottom of the tanks to the top.

that's my type of gauge right there...
my pontoon I just lift up the back seat and look down at the tank, (see right through the side of it) screw what the dash says

This is exactly what mine does. It bugs the crap out of my not knowing what the actual reading is.

Are you talking about those beaker looking tubes that sometimes go on the outside of tanks to measure the amount in the tanks?
Did you have them installed on your tank or did it come with them?
