That reminds me of a story I once heard:
Cop pulls over a CHP officer and begins to write him a ticket. The CHP officer then flashes the Cop his badge to which the Cop replies with a "yeah, I have one of those to" and continues to write the ticket. The CHP officer then asks the Cop for his badge number and name. The Cop asks "what do you want that for" and the CHP officer tells him, "so your buddies know who to thank when we pull one of them over and write them a ticket". Cop turns red, tears up the ticket and walks away.

I'm in Anaheim Hills and the cops here are pretty cool so far. But the Orange cycle cops are F'ers. And i've gotton a ticket in my HD on 38's around the morango ingin casino on the 10 going to AZ by a CHP. He got me doin 87 in a 70. THe sneaky bastard was in the middle of the damm frwy next to the divider wall. Watch out around there. He asked about the frame height and with out knowing for sure I said it was legal. He took my word for it. But this was back in 2002 so they may be better prepared now. And I got a ticket for mud flaps. Got it wrote off by a friend.

There were 4 chippies killed in a shoot out in the early seventies in Valencia.
The LASO was the lead investigating agency. The dets from the LASO were returning from the shooting scene in their plain police vehicle. They were stopped by a chippie officer, who stated that he stopped them for not having plates on their vehicle. They stated we are LASO dets, we are investigating the shoot out, involving the chippies. We are on our way back to the station to interview the shooter, So the chippie cited them for not having plates on their police vehicle and sent them on their way,

No apology needed, that was written like shit. beleive it or not i can actually scratch good paper, but this was written on a lap top while usuing wireless connection in a vehicle and was in a hurry and using my aol english. As far as the other stuff cops getting tickets and waitin for miguel (kilrtoy)to respond i think he will agree with my next statement. no cops arent above the law but if i work for say rex marine i get a discount dont i, but i dont own rex marine and why shouldn't i pay full price like the rest, if im a mason contractor i get a deal on block so i can do my backyard wall right ? perks to every job thats just a perk of that particular job. if 99% of the cops say stop miguel (kilrtoy) for a routine T-stop it will go just like this, he will identify himself ,they will ask him if he has his gun in the car and where it's at and then probablly say bitchen boat dude wish i was going with you take care bro late, it is that about right for your guys miguel ???

Working for Rex Marine and getting a discount at Rex Marine is totally different than working for the LAPD and expecting the CHP to give you a break. As an example, if you work for Rex, you are getting a discount (perk) from your employer. So, to follow on with that logioc, LAPD should only receive this perk from the LAPD, not from any other agency.
Most jobs have perks, not all. But that is not the point. A law enforcement officer is sworn to uphold the law. As such, they are expected to be held to a higher standard. Furthermore, breaking the very law that you are sworn to uphold is unethical, IMHO. Issuing a citation for the very same law that you yourself break is even worse.
Keep in mind where I say you above, I'm not referring to any one person, just using it as an example.

A little punctuation never hurts......
This thread is giving me a headache. What ever happened to "trailerpark casanova"? He was always so good with his words and always had a good story.
Ya.... a comma every now and then kinda helps.

Here is what he would say, Well I have heard of such things, NOT THAT I WOULD EVER DO THAT, but I'll look into it......
Doubt it, given things he has said in the past about these types of issues.

Here you go............................................
27602. (a) A person may not drive a motor vehicle if a television receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen, or any other, similar means of visually displaying a television broadcast or video signal that produces entertainment or business applications, is operating and is located in the motor vehicle at any point forward of the back of the driver's seat, or is operating and visible to the driver while driving the motor vehicle.
I was informed this applies to Lap Top Computers also.

Yeah, but I could not even imagine the wrath that the "buthole" officer would get in our department if he cited another officer, let alone the signifigant other. It would probably force him to lateral out. Once that plate comes back 10-35, see yah!

Not bad, but still where does it say a passenger in a vehicle can not use a laptop.....

So, basically they get around breaking the law 1) because they work for LASD and they can do that  and 2) they just ignore the cherries, while the rest of us have to pull over and they pull into the station lot. Nice, real nice! I'll have to ask my cousin who is a SGT for LASD what he would do if he found his deputies were doing that type of stuff.
Feel free to ask your cousin. I guarantee you that he badges chp if he gets stopped hopping to get out of a ticket. I also guarantee you that every chp officer badges the cops when they get pulled over. That guy has the entire city of Pomona to patrol and he choses to sit there AT THAT TIME just so he can catch deputies runnin late top work. Like he couldn't wait 20 minnutes to shoot radar there. Just not right if you ask me. Law enforcement is a brotherhood and you just don't do stuff like that. But lasd will always roll when Pomona PD yells for help. ALWAYS!
As far as breaking the law is concerned I don't think that there are enough free cheese burgers or free speeding tickets that make up for the funerals we attend of our fallen brethren.
Just my .02

This to me means anyone in the front seat. Becuz the driver can view it. And do you really think that if I argue this with a cop I am going to win. (sort of like now). :( After living with my dad I have learned.

Emergency vehicles are exzempt from this otherwise every police and fire vehicle on the road is in violation with their mdc units (which are laptop computers) mounted in the front seat areas. It's part of standard emergency communication equiptment.

So where a law is broken every day a cop or chp should not be there? Then why do police sit at the same spots with radar? A cop or chp speeding can kill someone as easy as anyone else.

It says that where it says any point forward of the back of the drivers seat. That would mean the front passenger seat. While it has not been established in this conversation if indeed that is what was happening, I do believe that she has answered your question.

No one is debating that you all put your lives on the line for the regular citizens. I for one understand that and appreciate it immensely. However, just because you wear a badge does not give you the right to break the law that you are entrusted to uphold. That is hypocritcal and ethically corrupt IMHO. Two things LEO's are expected to be above.

Man, im still getting hammered on that!! BTW yes i was on a laptop in a moving vehicle and no it was not a radio car. and as far as the section on laptops in the front seat thats a negative, it does not apply to that section of the v.c. or no one could have a navigation system in there car!

That would certainly make sense. But the section speaks of providing entertainment, a navigation system probably would not fit that criteria. But who knows how the courts would interpret it.

BANG!!!! :jawdrop:
As a cop told me once when I pointed out his violation of the law, "I am the law, I can't break it." This holds true from what I have seen.
The CHP "fighting" with the Sherrif's Dept. and visa-versa makes as much sense as the U.S. Army taking on the U.S. Marines...

Once again YOU ARE READING IN TO A QUESTION AND MAKIN A STATEMENT, I bet you dont do good on written test.....
Given the facts as stated you can not infer what actually occurred, Or do you have a crystal ball

Remember my rules Tom Brown:
1. I don't engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person (no, your soft air gun does'nt count).
1. I don't argue with foreigners. You live in totally different country than I do and you could not fathom what I face daily in South Los Angeles.
As for the rest:
Been around this site longer than any other cops here, seen all the anti/pro cop stuff and commented on some of it.
I associate with very few members of this board. Most don't have the balls to say what they think of cops to my face and those that spew true crap (none has been spewed on this thread), can't back their shit up when challenged. I actually respect the ones that write their gripes here more that the ones that smile and talk nice to you at the river then talk shit behind your back like little bitches when you drive away.
And I'll never understand the cops that hang out with the "HB cliques" that try to hide their jobs so they will be "liked". That is truly "weak sauce".
They say the public will remember a bad experience with cops seven times (as in recounting the incident). These days, it helps to be as professional as possible and not hand out "tudes" to those who don't deserve it. Just remember respect is a two way street, those that don't deserve it, won't ever get it.
I'm a cop, I truly enjoy my assignment, but it's just a job, nothing more. I don't need anyone's praise to affirm my conviction to what I do or that I am tasked to do things that most would find too vulgar, crazy or just plain frightening to handle.
So f*** it, vent your shit, fight your tickets like a good citizen should and enjoy boating to relax. It's that simple.

Well put... I applaud your conviction to stand by what you have chosen to do as a profession. And yes, it is only a job. However, it is one that puts you in contact with the % of society that nobody wants to deal with, much less know about. This is not to say that people should not be treated with respect, but it's a two-way street that the public tends to forget about.

Yea, right! :)
But I ment tactically.
I know sheriff deputies, city police, and state police here and although they may gripe about each other, when there is trouble, they back each other up. That's the only way to be. Must be a west coast thing. :argue:
