So how much Hp would it take to hit 100+ in a 21' Daytona

LS7

I don't recall the specs but Jack McClure @ MPD has two 21' Daytona custumers flying.
One is Turkey Lipps, 509 chevy running 113mph.
Another 21'er owned by Marty, ran at the NJBA Drags last event and I believe he ran 114mph @ low 10's, It might have been nines but my memory is only pc100. lol
Give him a call he will guide you to a rocket.

BlownLiberator509 is running a 21 Liberator (Daytona Splash) and is tuning his way towards 100mph. I think he is somewhere near 94. I know he is blown and I think running around 5-7lbs of boost, but I would say ask him for the details.

I've got my boat since I posted that subject...not really sure if I'm trimmed out yet....only had the boat out 3 times, full fuel and gear 1-2 passengers, on gps yesterday mid 90s....fastest enough for me, I think it'll do 100+ if I get the fuel down and gear and passengers out...and let it run out a bit, motor dynoed @ 800hp+ @ 6000 rpm, 5 lbs. boost, GS Marine rigged the hull and did the pump and I shipped him motor, its an awsome package.

Whatahey everybody,
I have a 21 daytona that I have been working on all summer and should be ready to romp this week. My goal like many is to make triple digits. When I started I did a lot of home work and was told that I needed 850 HP, but the real key was TORQUE and I should shoot for 800+ ft.lbs. and of course a well setup pump. So this is what I wound up with;
Blown 540 setup to run on pump fuel
dynoed at 944 hp at 6800 rpm
856 ft.lbs. at 4900 rpm
turning an AA impeller with a
cavitation reducer
I'm sure some tuning will be needed to optimize the setup, but as soon as I complete the maiden voyage I'll post the results
FFS(fast fun and safe)Boating to all

Hot rod, thats sounds like a real stout motor package and awsome torque, I ommitted mine but its making 760@ 5000. Yours should easly get you triple digits......as I always say...get in, sit down, shut up, and hang on.
Timer i don't know how to post pics can you help me out....thanx, Fat Rat...I feel kinda skinny compared to Hot Rod.

Hey Hotrod.....I am the guy selling my 632 ci blower motor and abunch of other parts. I was just reading your post and was gonna tell ya. I have a daytona and was running the 632 on pump gas and only running 5 pounds of boost. I ran Augusta a few weeks ago and went out in the first round on a redlight. I turned a 9:84 @ 126mph. I am running just under 960 hp @ 5900 rpm and 910 ft pounds of torque @ 5400 rpm. It sounds like your combination will get you were you wanna be except for one thing. DON"T USE A DOUBLE AA IMPELLER!!!! Stay with a good (aggressor makes a great S.S. impeller) S.S. A impeller. I tried a double AA and they are great for low rpm heavy boats such as those big aluminum fishing boats using diesel engines. Hope it helps. You only talking about an average difference of 400 rpm between a Double AA and an A. Might be a little more with a blower motor. You should turn between 5800-6200 rpm. Which will put your motor right in the sweet spot. Secondly, if you haven't ever driven a tunnel BE CAREFUL. They can get away REAL quick.

fat rat, I've never tried posting a picture. From what I've read here, you need to show it on a web site first, then refer to its URL here in your note. Maybe someone else who knows can help. Maybe I'll try to post a picture of mine for practice.

Timer

I'm not sure about the windshield, as I just bought the boat late last year. It's split in the middle (2-piece) and is made of some kind of smoked plastic.

TIMER.......Very sweet sled. I also own a daytona and IN MY OPINION they are the nastiest looking boots on the water or trailer. I would have to say that a blown flattie is a close damn second. I am finishing up my new motor and can't wait to get it finished. I installed my wing this weekend. I designed and built a carbon fiber wing and struts for my daytona. It is THE next best visual modification, BLOWER BEING FIRST, that any ***boater can do. They make the boat look SSOOOOOOOOOOO trick. Anyway, kooooool boat. Maybe hotrod will make ya a deal on his LITTLE motor.!!!!HAHAA JUST KIDDIN HOTROD!!!!!!!!!!

Hey timmer GREAT lookin boat! I've got a 1983 21 Daytona, but its a pump.I'am dying to know...1'st,how fast would ya say your going at idle? 2'nd,what is the slowest rpm and speed the boat stay on plain? and 3'rd,at 3000 rpm, what's your mph?Ya see when I was lucky enough to find a 21 Daytona in Maryland I bought it.I do like jets, however I kinda wish it was a v-drive.Seems to me your boat would RIPP,Sooo if ya could get back to me with those #'s.Thanks.

It's nice to get those compliments. Thanks everybody. I guess it should be expected since some of you own a Daytona! I want to see pictures of all of your boats! They sound like real lookers, even if some aren't Daytonas.
phillyray, here's what I know, or can guess:
Idle speed: In first gear, under 5 mph, in second gear, maybe 6 or 7 mph, but I have to goose it periodically to keep it running in second at idle.
Plane rpm & speed: Not sure because I've never just planed.
Speed @ 3000 rpm: It's about 30 mph. From there the speed goes up faster than the rpm.
It's a 468 BBC with nitrous (inoperable for now), 22% gears and a 12 x 15 3-blade prop. Per a respected v-drive guy, with the nitrous it's a 100 mph boat, without it maybe 85. I'm still getting use to it so I haven't gone fast yet. (It scares the little lady.)

Hey
I am running a 21' Liberator - same bottom as your daytona. Full gear(Stereo, Tools, Engine cover , 50 gal's of fuel) Motor is a 509 with 842 hp at 7300 r's. Spin it at 6000 (800hp- 700lbTq) we hit 94 but still having a hook up problem at that speed. I have had the impeller(ss "A" legend) and shoe & ride plate set up by MPD. rest of the Pump is a stock (for now) berk JG.

Barney,
Are those seats from pre made types like Todd or Wise? It looks like the front units are wise ski boat seats, and the back is a Todd double wide. Just curious cause if they are, they came out looking good.
Chris

HavasuBarney
08-23-2001, 12:06 PM
I know the seat are 1 of the two, Todd or Wise, yes the rear is a double wide bucket.
Brand new the interior was around $600, ordered the seats through Overtons. Very please with the fronts, double wide is a little thin on padding.
Mike, I did make it to Chicago, thought I would have one maybe two days work, did not make it outside for three days and have to return for another 1-2 days soon. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get out.

Barney ,nice anchor http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif,the boat is nice too.How do you rate the quality on Overton products, other than the skimping on the cushions ?

HavasuBarney
08-23-2001, 07:23 PM
Gotta give them a big thumbs up! Quality is very good for the money. I had some seats recovered last year, cost more than this interior and weighed twice as much, very light and sturdy. I like the front seats so much, I'm thinking of using 4 of them.
I have not bought anything else from Overtons.
Another cool option if you are familiar with Allisons, they make a very nice fiberglass seat with snap off covers, very comfy.
The guy that makes them is Kevin Levigne
416-271-9315. I have not used him, but have seen the seats and will use them for my next two projects in the works.
Hope it helps.

I'm not sure if you were kidding or not Nasty, but odds are that the best pump guy in Costa Mesa is Jack at MPD. Of course that is not a great distinction as I think Jack is the only pump guy in Costa Mesa. It doesn't really matter where he is at, check out the berk mods thread and you'll see quite a few people that are pretty happy with his work.

Hey, I live in the same town as Overton's world HQ, in fact I went to high school with Kristi Overton. This is a great family owned and operated business. They have a good selection of stuff at the showroom, and will get anything they don't have overnight for you. They sell mostly quality goods, some are pricey, but they will meet any other price you can find. Remember that they are Wise or some other brand seats, not Overtons.

Hey Jetboatjake - sweet ride, I too have a 21' Edge, my problem is that the trailer does not have a bow stop or winch. It is a royal pain in the A@% to line it up with the bow eye, who made your trailer, I need a bow stand just like yours.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey Jeff in KY
First of all I will NEVER own another competative trailer. The big black stop on the front is useless for anything but a mount for the winch. All it would do is destroy the front end of the boat if you hit it. Right to the front of the Bow Eye I mounted a bracket with a roller mounted on it and room to run the strap through. This hold the boat tight about 2" from the bow stop. When I got boat new they winched it tight to bow stop and broke rivets on bump rail. The competative rides like DOO DOO bounces all over and despite efforts squeaks like crazy. If you need more info rbrtrucking@aol.com
And FatRat they call the 21' a phantom the 19' is the stealth. Hope to Get time to run this weekend. Thanx and seeya guys
