Im looking to get a 10" sub in my truck. Its an f150 supercrew with the king ranch captains chairs and a center console in the back. I was wondering if anybody had any stereo connections in the OC or Corona area(live in yorba linda). Also I wanted to see a general cost for a sub, amp, box, head unit, and install. Sorry that i put this in the Sandbar...just trying to get the most views :D . Thanks

I went the easy route with a powered unit, 10" DEI, there are a lot of others out there now, Kenwood, Bazooka ECT. It is enough for me as I dont like Bass so high or is it low that the friggin truck panels rattle, JMO!! cost installed was iI think about $300 NSF :2purples:

Do you have a king ranch too? Because there is not much room to put anything in the back. So im thinking i need a custom box. im probably going to go to al and eds in brea today to get a qoute.

went to al and eds in brea and was told about 900 dollars for a jl box with a jl sub in my back console. well i dont want to spend that much so i told him if i bring the box i found online that cost $130 would he install it with a little bit cheaper sub and amp. he told me it would be around $400 not including buying the box online. does that sound reasonable?

Stereo equipment is not cheap, as you have found out. Truck boxes built may run between $200-$400 on up, a decent amp will cost about $200-$400, and the sub woffer will cost you around $100. I build my own stuff so It saves me a lot of $$$, I am building a system now for the boat and I spent $150 on two infinity Kapa Reference Series 10", and $250 on a Kicker 600 Mono amp. I got out cheap, I shopand compare.

Toomstone; I pull my Magic with an access cab Tundra, I put the tube behind my seat and lost about 2" of back slide position. As I said it's adequate for me and didnt break the bank. the best thing is it's all one package. it bumps pretty good but not like a 12" would. NSF :2purples:

Give Parker (dave) a call he owns the Al&Eds in Ontario, he takes care of hot boaters. He also has one of the top ranked installers in the US on staff, so you know its going to get done right the first time. his number at the shop is (909)481 8411. You could also shoot him a pm and he can get back to you.

I have an F-150 Supercrew also but not a King Ranch. I had enough room to install a box behind the rear seat with 2 JL Audio 10's. I changed out the front door speakers with a set of MMATS Audio and the rear doors have set of Arc Audio speakers. I left in the stock head unit and six disc changer. It's powered buy an Arc Audio XXK 4050 amp. It sounds great but was not cheap. A good system does not come cheap. So, be prepared to shell out some dough. :crossx:

hey jim,
Is your head unit powered by an amp or still stock? I know the more expensive you go the nicer its going to sound. i just really want the least custom box i can get and spend around $500 with maybe a rockford fosgate sub.

PLEASE DO NOT POST QUESTIONS OR REPLIES HERE...
if you want to add a thought or idea to the sticky.. put a post out on the Audio board I will add it... lets keep the sticky clean & easy to folow.
What Years & models do they make Stealth Boxes For?
Go here there are models for the '00 & the '01. Acutally the '00 owners can have TWO (2) Stealth boxes for even more bass

Stealth Box What is it?
A direct fit fiberglass enclosure designed to go INSDIE the consoles or under the seats of various trucks. The key is the design process read this:
http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/ford.html
One important fact left off the website is that not only is the enclosure molded for an OEM fit, but every vehicle has numerous locations tested for best sound FIRST. The location chosen for final production, represents the best possible sound for the best possible woofer, for the best practicle solution...
Finally, the intention of the Stealth Box series is to give great, acurate bass within the confines of the OEM interior. Notice I did not mention LOUD or THUNDEROUS. Nor did I mention that it will bounce quarters off your roof, shake your neighbor's windows, rattle the car next to you, or make the girls flock to your truck at the drive-in. This subwoofer system is designed for accuracy. YES it gets loud. Yes it plays low, YES it will vibrate the truck when driven hard with the right CD or movie... BUT those are NOT the design parameters of this system. If you want any of those or other "feats of super-human strength" from a sub woofer system, go custom. Bare minimum listen to a truck with a Stealth & your own music.
What Size Speaker is in the enclosure:
It varies. look at the link to your truck above the speaker size(s) are indicated as well as the engineering going into that model's design.
Does the installation require cutting or modifying my interior
Depends on you & your truck. I have not worked with the front console models since they were redesigned. The rear-under seat unit requires holes to be drilled in the carpet & floor. The '02-'03 has instructions that tell you to cut the inner liner for "best fit" but several of us have done the install perfectly without modification to the rear console. got here for pics & details:

Will I like the stealthbox for my kind of music?
Answer is depends on your music style first & foremost. Second it depends on the amplifier you choose. But the short answer is:
If you listen to hardcore Rap/Dance/Hip Hop/Trance/Electronica then the Stealth will leave you wanting more. No matter how much power you put to it... it wont satisfy you.
Can I install it myself? What about Warranty
JL's official warranty policy:
http://www.jlaudio.com/index.html# click warranty....
in a nut shell. The Stealth box is 2 year warranty if DEALER installed & 90 days if self installed. NOW be aware there are JL dealers who will give you the 2-year warranty if you isntall it yourself if they feel you know what your doing. Tread nicely..
Where can I get the best price on a Stealth for my Truck?
Read this First:
http://www.jlaudio.com/internetsales.html
Short form: If you buy online = sellers warranty only... NO JL WARRANTY over the internet or MAIL ORDER!!
Dealer's install can be negotiated to close the deal. Local dealer's know the game. Here in St. Louis they will Sell the '02-'03 for $450-499 all day long... Retail is $599. Shop around... You wont find it online less than $450 new. Also factor in that when you buy from a JL Dealer 3-day shipping to the dealer is free. This thing is kinda heavy... so that's a $50-75 savings.
Can I blow the Stealth Box with XX amp or XXXwatts of power
YES ANY SPEAKER CAN BE BLOWN WITH ANY AMOUNT OF POWER
People who ask this question should consult a professional installer/shop.

How can I hook up my Stealth to my stock Head Unit
1.) if you ask this you haven't read the Audio FAQ
http://www.nhtoc.com/forum/showthre...=&threadid=6188
SHAME on you.
2.) if you choose to do this (tisk-tisk) then a JL or Xtant amplifier is just about a requirement.
3.) run a search for "Stealth Box" at the bottom of the Audio page. Then read the 3+ pages of threads on Stealth boxes. its been covered 15,000 times...
That's the first round of info. As more things are asked I will add them.

My amp powers the subs and the front door speakers. The rear door speakers are running off the stock head unit. I'm really impressed with how good the system sounds with the stock head unit.
