Name one - you know the shows - the ones with a pissed-off lieutenant always going out of his way to help the renegades in the department and the snitch - there was always a snitch

Lt.'s in general usually have a lot to be pissed off at.
Lots of responsibility and damned little authority. They deal with the public, and:
Sergeants who know what they are doing and don't want the damn bean-counter nitwit Lt. in the way, and
Captains who are way too far removed from the line level of the business, (and have forgotten what it is like to do a double back to graveyard shift after dspending all day in court),trying to get the Lt.'s to make the political side of the hallway happy.
(No offense) :D
My favorite was always Hill Street Blues.

Robbery Homicide Division,
Most of the extra officers (non/limited speaking roles) were real LAPD officers on the short lived series. Nice little off duty gig.
