I saw CBS National news tease it last night, but missed the story. I thought it was the pentagon flag though, not sure. Either way, it belongs somewhere other than in someone's private collection.

Thats what I think...and hopefully the money raised will go to help some families that were affected by 911. It might be my error about where it was from, I was too amazed at what they were doing....

I don't know how to post a link, but i found it. Do a search on E-bay under Flag 9/11 Pentagon and sort by highest bid. It was a flag that was on a construction crane in front of the pentagon.

Yeah, the smithsonian has an incredible 9-11 collection.
It does have one of the few surviving flags.
Some of the other stuff is just chilling.
I believe they have made a traveling exhibit out of some of the recovered items.
Well worth seeing.

I don't know if I would trust the sorce. It would be so easy to fake that. The whole story could be a fake. Maybe I'm just to suspicious in my old age.

Just something to think about..
David has received many offers (exceeding $100,000) from around the world to sell the flag. Originally, he declined.... and instead framed the flag and loaned it to several Colleges, Universities, Schools, Fire Departments, and Museums throughout the United States.
In March 2004 David was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) and has been battling the disease ever since. On July 12th, 2004, David was given 3 months to live by his doctors. At age 44, and with three children (ages 6, 10 & 13), David was not ready to submit to this disease. He has been undergoing high doses of a costly new treatment that are helping to save David's life.
Seems like the guy was doing the right thing in the beginning, but his own financial circumstances (do to cancer) has causen him to have to take another path..

Looks like the final price was $371,300. I thought someone like RD would have stepped in and put down some real money.....

What makes this flag differant from any other? All American flags should be treated this way.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that flag was flown on a crane that was cleaning up rubble at the Pentagon and not the flag that was flying at the Pentagon or World Trade Center on 9-11. If thats the case then there are some people in this world who have way too much money.
I could understand it alot better if it was the flag raised by the 3 firemen at ground zero.
