Hello my brother has a Johnson 8hp outboard motor. It is model # jbrcde serial # b0104387. The motor says on it 100:1. He has called several marinas in the Virginia area and they told him 50:1 oil mix. Ok he did that but it smokes like a freight train. I mean like a smoke bomb.. Does any one know what oil mix ratio to use on this or a number I can call for him?
Thanks
He is just a little concerned I nor he has heard of 100:1
O and this is posted in outboards as well :D

likwidsukr, synthetic oil smokes much less. It's just an 8 hp so he should be able to run Amsoil or Klotz at 75:1 and have almost no smoke at all. I think Amsoil or both of those brands are rated for 100:1 use in most standard duty engines. I don't know if I'd go that thin but I don't have any reason to doubt the ratio claims.
Gasoline grade affects the smoke output too.
This high oil ratio stuff is for high revving engines but isn't necessary on a small kicker.
