Hey everyone,
My father in law is building a house in F.M. and will be moving there in June. What can anyone tell me about this place? I boat on the lower river near Martinez, but would really like to take my boat to his place occasionally since he's really close to the river. Where would be a good place to launch, run the boat, hang for the day, etc? Also, he likes to fish and hunt, etc., so any ideas or recommendations along these lines would be useful too. I know some people from the boards boat in this area, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks a lot for your help.
Bill

Fort Mohave is about half way between Park Moabi in Needles and Katherine Landing at Lake Mohave..so it's your choice as to where to launch the boat. If you launch in Needles, you're only a few miles (maybe 7) upriver from the Sandbar, and then not too far from Havasu either. I don't know much about the fishing and hunting part but that shouldn't be too hard to find out there. Of course Laughlin is only a few miles away too...for decent dinners, some craps games, and a little nightlife too.

We are a little up river from Fort Mohave but I do store my boat there. I like that part of the river because its not as crowded as further up towards Laughlin. About 2 miles up river from Avi casino there is some nice beach areas that you can day camp at and let the kids enjoy the sand and drink some cool ones as far as launching there I dont know but Im sure there are plenty.

Ssssshhhhh, don't be telling people about the beaches. Btw, I'll be at one of those nonexistent beaches this weekend. Low 80s, throw a couple chairs up on the beach with the cooler, and it's all good.

I am quite familiar with that area of the river since that's the area where I do almost all of my boatin' at. Tell him that he's gonna love the area, especially if he is into huntin' upland birds... I do lots of quail and dove huntin' up in that area every fall/winter. He can hunt in just about anywhere on the Arizona side of the river. Up on the hills east of Hwy 95 as well as on Indian reservation (with permit, of course). there is also good huntin' up towards Kingman on either side of the road past Davis dam.
As far as launching, there are quite a number of places to launch... some to mention are... Willow valley marina on the east bank of the river(need to know somebody who owns a property there), Avi Casino on the west bank, Jack Smith park in Needles, the police station on the east bank (between Avi casino and Laughlin). There is a public launch ramp almost right across [and south] from Hara's casino as well.
Tell your father-in-law that if he loves catching trout, he won't be disappointed either, as there are lots of areas along the river between Needles and Laughlin to fish. My father-in-law retired up there and loves it (especially for huntin' and fishin')...
Take care...
Mike...

Cancell what I said about the beaches, I forgot they got washed away due tho the large amounts of water that they have been letting out of the dam.
Have fun and we'll see you on the water!
