So if 500 hp and 70 mph is the cut off for for power and speed. Where do you go to when you add a supercharger and how much are your rates? Looks like I have to change my insurance carrier if I step up to a blower.

I ussed Devin Wozencraft with Farmers. He secured my boat insurance with Markel. I had all the bad things going for me Under 26ft, over 1000 HP and a cat hull. Premium is in the $2500 range Give him a call he's a great guy. Let me know if you need a # :hammerhea :hammerhea

J Rocket:
Boat is a 24ft HTM SS24. Been with them for two years now. Due to renew in July. Last year premium actually went down almost $200. No lay up involved. I do have restrictions on a few lakes in the U.S. that if I want to boat on them I have to obtain a waiver. One of those is Mead.
Talking with Devin recently I guess Markel will not insure a cat under 26ft any more. As well as nothing faster than 120MPH. So far knock on wood it's been all good. As soon as I get my renewal notice I just pay in full don't want to draw any unwanted attention. ;)

HEH?... Is that a real quote? You have the policy in hand? Agreed value? If so... how much value?
Markel quoted me about 4150 with 800hp

Sounds like 69mph is real cheap. All that money on a blower and you eat it on insurance too. OUCH.

Box Score,
That's not a quote. As I mentioned in an earlier post I have had the policy for 2 years with my 3rd year renewal coming up. Agreed upon value was $81,500 for boat and trailer. When I originally called Markel direct I got a quote from them for $3250. I don't know how Devin does it, but he has always teated me fair. Iknow that prices have gone up in the last 2 years. I have noidea what I would be quoted if I went today to try and get a new policy. But everyone I have steered to Devin in the past say's he was the best quote around. IMO he's a real stand up guy.

Bre,
How long have you had your policy. The word I got from Devin is that they will not take on any new policies under 26ft. or over 120MPH. As far as I know they are still renewing all existing policies

Since last April..insurance is up at the end of the month. Hopefully the boat is gone by then so I will not have to pay it :jawdrop: :D

I have state farm now and they wouldn't insure a 2005 29 E-ticket with 850hp (twin 496 HO's). They said it was too much HP. I wonder what their cutoff is?

Devin is a pretty good guy, he got my friend a pretty good deal on a 28 daytona w/ twin 425's. It's alot easier to get ahold of someone at the office now, he's got my sis Jessie and another assistant working for him.

Do you have the policy in hand? Thats what they quoted me until they figured out what they just insured. 30 Days later I had no insurance, just like a few others here on the boards.
If you have the policy, you are one of the lucky ones with State Farm and cheap insurance.

Sy insures most of the high end boats from coast to coast and alot of race boats also.
And is very easy to deal with.

You better read the policy. Sounds like an ACV policy. Just because the policy says "value" or "cost" or "purchase price" is $xxx, xxx does not mean it is an agreed value policy. You have to read the actual policy and read the express statement that the policy will pay the agreed value of $xxx, xxx in the event of a loss. Or better yet, guaranteed replacement like Progressive.

Well, its only a 28 foot deck boat.....how bad could it be??? :rollside:
I will call him....thanks! When I ask the locals for a quote they ask me if it goes over 45mph.....uh, ya. So I think they all think its some pontoon boat....which is all good if they cover it for the agreed upon $$$$$.

A lot of the low rates on high performance boats probably also have to do with how much other insurance business you do with the company. When I shopped our last boat's insurance our Farmer's agent had the best deal. But I truly believe that was because of the many other policies I have with him - two houses, 2 cars, truck, umbrella and the boat. Also helps to have clean driving record, boater's safety classes, depth gauge, Halon system and being over the hill agewise ;)! All factors.

I think that has a lot to do with it. I have been with state farm for 20 yrwith no clames 2 trucks unbrella, house, jet ski and the boat. and no tickets.
I'll read my policy. You guy's got me nervous!!!!

TY:
it probably says they have 60 days to cancel you for any reason. If they don't and you didn't tell any white lies, they are stuck with you until the end of the policy. ;) :D
Mine was the same deal, boat, both cars, house, RV, etc. old policy so they took the boat. about $600/year.
But they won't do more than 500 hp either, so I'd be SOL if I upgraded.
but for now its great!

I have to agree. I know you guys are talking cats, but my V w/ 425HP is $890 / yr with all the add-ons. I really don't see a cat being anywhere near that. I understand, however, that most companies look at deck boats differently. More like family instead of performance.

Nashville Bound,
You should be ok with a deckboat even if you have alot of HP. I have a friend who just insured his HTM deckboat with 850hp for $925. Agreed upon value of 97K.
