Can you tell me how tires are rated?? I was talking to Jay Photo the other day he mentioned that tires or side walls have ratings?? Like D, E, F ???
How does this work? I want to pull a 15k pound trailer but don't want to by just any 35" tires??
What is ones liability pulling a boat that weighs 14k pounds with just $150 BFG All Terrains with a ? rating.
If the tire were to blow causing an accident what is the responsibility??
Jay has a set of expensive tires on his rig to accomodate that big PIG of his.
I asked a few friends and they all seem in the dark. How many people are pulling over weight rigs with the wrong tires?

I am running BFG MUD"S that are D rated and i tow 15,000 really should be using some E rated tires but nobody makes any in the size i need. I think your ok with D rated tires up to this weight. Have lots of friends doing the same and no probs yet in the last 5yrs Just make sure when you tow that your tires are at the Max Pressure on the tire.

C = 6 ply
D = 8 ply
E = 10 ply
So on and so forth.
Nothing less than a D on a 2500 or bigger.

Plenty of Glamis guys doing it all the time. :jawdrop:
Just put some air bags on the rear like Blown Howard said and you'll be fine.

IMO "D"'s should be fine. I too run the A/T KO by BFG in a 35 x 16.5 I think they are around 3300 lb rated. This is per tire at recomended preasure. This is the gross weight and takes a scale to figure out for sure
as for the Glamis crowd, yeah we all do it but, with the loads that are on the road to dunes all exceed the tires, and GVWR (this is what you qouted above i.e. 22,000 combo weight) I would bet. Add a few road sodas, and 75+ mph and it spells trouble. Oh well, soon as boating season is over I will worry about that.

Next time your making a run somewhere, pull through a Truck Stop that has a set of Scales. It will probably cost 6 or 7 bucks to use them, then you will know your gross wgt. Your chevy probably came with 10ply's (E rating) The E rating is about as good as there is in the Light Truck line. Goodyear makes a 14ply (G rating) but it is made for a Trailer application, free rolling.

Buy the Goodyears. It's your family & mine out there. Don't send a boy to do a man's job.

Depending on the size of your BFG's they will have a minumum load range D. The weight of the trailer will have nothing to do with weather your tires on your truck can handle it. You will need to find out the pin weight of the trailer, add it to the unladen weight of your truck plus people and gear, and multiply the load rating of your tires by 4 or 6 if you got a dually. You should be under.
I'd be more concerned with the load ranges of the tires on the 5th wheel. I see most with a 15" tire and load range D or E. I would feel much more comfortable with a 16" tire.

I gotta agree with bohica. My Sub weighs 5,796 lbs...add about 1,000 lbs for gear, etc. With about 1,000 lbs of tongue weight, I figure 60% is on the back axle (weight distributing hitch).
Therefore, each rear tire is carrying 2,338 lbs, and each front tire is carrying 1,559 lbs- well within the 3,400 lbs my D-rated tires can handle.

So I can pick up a 2500HD Duramax and tow up to lets say 15000 pounds?
When i put the wheels and tires on it I need to go with some good 8 plys (or 10) and bag it to keep it from bottoming out?? What else??
My boat only weighs 8000 pounds but I need to move a 5th wheel toy box around? I dont want to be stressed out.. :jawdrop:
