I have three different insurance companies quoting me anywhere from $2,900 to $3,400 on a '98 Eliminator Daytona 21' with a Promax 300 on it. This can't be right can it? Am I telling the agent something wrong? This is the boat:
It only has a 300 HP!

I finally found it for my 19' cat, and it was $1750 for the year. I'm ecstatic since I called over 30 different agencies before one would do it.

It's not the HP it's the speed it can do that is killing you and the kicker is the CAT!!!! :frown:

post in Cats n Tunnels...those guys have some insurance doods, the problem is the 21tunnel is small, altough 300hp is minor. the boat is a daytona....
best of luck, keep looking, the boat looks clean and has been for sale for a while, so you can get a deal...cheers
did u call ace, markel, etc?

maybe the question I should be asking is am I gonna kill myself in this boat? I rode in a boat just like this one last weekend but it had a Rude Etec on it and it was a blast! I just want a nice, fast, lake boat that I can enjoy with some friends. In your guys opinion is this boat dangerous or something??

The boat is only as dangerous as the person driving it. It is an excellent riding and handling boat, you'll love it.

Catamaran insurance is approximately 3X more expensive than a comparable vee hull with equal power. Enjoy the new ride and don't fret (sp) the extra expense.

Thank god for slow jet drives :), my insurance is about a quarter of that. Technically the Daytona isn't a cat, it is a picklefork tunnel, not sure if that makes a difference to the ins companies but you may want to mention it to them. Another approach is to put a few fishing chairs and a trolling motor on it and call it a bass boat, they seem to get away with big power on small boats without paying lots for insurance.

Something ain't right!! I have a 93 22' Daytona listed with 400hp and mine is $585 for the year.... PM me and I can give you my agents number. It went through Farmers, but the policy is with Foremost I believe.
What did you ask as the "greed" price??(the full replacement value) Maybe thats what is getting you the high numbers.
