Some questions and observations:
* Does anyone really care if they don't show up at work or at school?
* If they can simply not show up, don't we have the right to:
A. Not allow them into our hospitals?
B. Not allow them into our police stations?
C. Not provide them firefighting services?
D. Not provide them with paramedic transportation and care?
* Why do we need to give them a free ride on our backs and wallets?
* Their argument of who will pick the grapes/crops if they don't DOESN'T HOLD WATER! Back in the early 1900's this country's midwest suffered with the dust bowl and thousands of MIGRANT WORKERS who were AMERICANS came out west to California to pick crops for 15 hours a day in the burning hot sun.
* Why did they pick May 1st to hold their walkout/protest?
* Note: May Day has long been a focal point for demonstrations by various socialist, communist, and anarchist groups. In the 20th century, May Day received the official endorsement of the Soviet Union; celebrations in communist countries during the Cold War era often consisted of large military parades and shows of common people in support of the government.

Had our usual lunch today at our regular Mexican restaurant and asked the owner if he would be open Monday (of course loud enough for everyone to enjoy). He didn't know! We suggested he get all his dishes washed Sunday night, and he'd better be ready to wait tables. The business owners in our crowd announced that anyone not working Monday would be immediately terminated. Monday should be interesting...

This whole May 1 thing is stupid. I know several people who will not be at work Monday. I think they should all be let go. Anyways, none of them actually know why they're doing it either. It just pisses me off. :mad:

Rock It Tacos will be open in Canyon Lake. The guy that opened Chronic Tacos(J.C. Bonilla) is the same guy that owns Rock It Tacos. He sold Chronic about a year into it to his other partners. I spoke with my guys and put it simply. I asked them if they thought I would support a national "send your Mexican worker home" day. They agreed that I would not, so they are coming in happily.
To me it is about respect. If they took Monday off, it would leave me with a divided shop... white guys and Mexicans. I won't allow any form of racism anywhere near the building, and they would be fostering themselves and drawing a line that I would forever have to consider when working with them. I won't allow racism, even if it is a race dividing themselves.
Also, nobody got what the whole thing was about, and was basically along the lines of "everyone is doing it".
You can imagine how far that went with me.
Bottom line is, they will all be here on Monday, happy for a good job where they are respected for the work quality, not their ethnicity.
